SLOW COOKER BABY BACK RIBS

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs image

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs made with a homemade rub that has liquid smoke, seasonings and brown sugar.

Provided by Sarah Olson

Categories     Main Course

Time 8h20m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 rack back pork ribs
1 cup water
1/2 cup sweet baby ray's bbq sauce
2 tsp. hickory liquid smoke
more sweet baby ray's bbq sauce for serving
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. paprika

Steps:

  • Remove the silver skin from the back of the ribs, I do this by lifting an edge of the middle of the ribs and tearing off in one piece.
  • Cut the ribs into 4 sections.
  • In a small bowl prepare the rub; combine the brown sugar, onion powder, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Put the rub onto ribs with hands.
  • Place the ribs in the slow cooker. Pour the water and liquid smoke in around the ribs. (note- you can add the liquid smoke into the rub instead of adding it in the water if desired). Pour over the barbecue sauce on top of the ribs.
  • Cook on low for 8 or high for 4 hours.
  • Brush with more warmed barbecue sauce if desired and serve.

SLOW COOKER BABY BACK RIBS

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs image

These are the best I've had, short of the actual grilling method of course! This is a very simple recipe that I came up with a few years ago. It's not rocket science, just ribs cooked in the slow cooker and finished in the oven. This is what I do when I want ribs during the week and have to work all day. I'm eating them within a half-hour of getting home, and they turn out perfect every time!

SLOW-COOKER BARBECUE RIBS

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs image

Yes, you can cook ribs in a slow cooker! In this easy recipe, the seasoning paste transforms into a savory dipping sauce. Slather it on the ribs and pop them on the grill just before serving for a final char.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     main-dish

Time 4h40m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

One 6-ounce can tomato paste
1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground mustard seeds
2 teaspoons granulated garlic
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 racks baby back ribs (about 3 pounds)
Oil, for grilling

Steps:

  • Whisk the tomato paste, brown sugar, vinegar, chili powder, mustard, garlic, paprika, Worcestershire, 1 1/2 tablespoons salt and 1 teaspoon pepper in the insert of a 6-quart slow cooker until smooth. Cut each rack of ribs in half and add to the slow cooker. Use your hands to rub the sauce on to the ribs. Cover with a lid and cook on low heat until tender, about 4 hours.
  • Gently transfer the ribs to a baking sheet and cool for at least 20 minutes; this will help maintain the shape of the ribs as they grill. Whisk the sauce at the bottom of the slow cooker until smooth. Reserve 1/4 cup of the sauce to brush on to the ribs and save any remaining sauce to serve on the side (it will thicken as it cools).
  • Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates. Grill the ribs, top-side down, until lightly charred in parts, 3 to 5 minutes. Flip, brush the top side of the ribs with the reserved barbecue sauce and grill until the underside of the ribs are lightly charred in parts, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove to a platter and serve immediately with the extra barbecue sauce on the side.

BABY BACK RIBS (SLOW COOKER)

Baby Back Ribs (Slow Cooker) image

These baby back ribs might not be bathed in smoke, but they still a lot of flavor. This slow cooked recipe will give you a great set of ribs even if can't prepare it outdoors.

Provided by CHEF GRPA

Categories     Australian

Time 8h20m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

4 lbs pork baby back ribs
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
3/4 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 teaspoon white pepper
3/4 teaspoon ground oregano
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon sugar

Steps:

  • Trim excess fat from ribs. Combine dry ingredients and rub over the surface of the ribs. Place ribs in slow cooker or Crock-Pot standing on their edge with the meaty side out. Cook for about 8 hours. Remove ribs from slow cooker and brush with barbecue sauce.
  • My Note: THE ONLY THING I DID DIFFERENTLY WAS THAT I TURNED OFF THE SLOW COOKER AND I REMOVED THE RIBS. I PLACED THEM ONTO A FLAT TRAY LINED WITH FOIL, WITH MINIMAL JUICE FROM THE SLOW COOKER. I PRE-HEATED THE OVEN TO 380 AND I BRUSHED THE RIBS WITH SWEET RAYS BBQ SAUCE ( WE LOVE THIS BBQ SAUCE) AND WE BAKED THEM FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO FIRM THEM UP A BIT AND GLAZE THEM. THEY WERE AWESOME.
  • First, we cooked for 6.5 hours on low, and the ribs came out moist and falling off the bone tender. Any longer, and they would have not have held together. Second, we also coated lightly in BBQ sauce when they came out, and then put them under the broiler for 7 minutes. That way, the outside was crispy and BBQ-like, but the inside was moist and so, so, tender. When we make again, we'll take them out after 6 hours, which is plenty on low! My wife said they are the best she's ever had, and my mother-in-law wanted the recipe!

PERFECT BABY BACK RIBS

Provided by Melissa d'Arabian : Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 9h20m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Dash cayenne pepper (optional)
2 racks baby back ribs
2 tablespoons white or cider vinegar
Nonstick spray, for spraying slow-cooker insert
1/4 cup beer (any kind)
1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce (optional)

Steps:

  • For the dry rub: Place the salt, smoked and sweet paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, black pepper and cayenne (if using) in a small bowl and mix with a fork until well blended.
  • Sprinkle the ribs with the vinegar and rub into the flesh. Rub the dry rub mixture all over the ribs. (This may be done the night before for extra flavor, and placed in the refrigerator.)
  • Spray the insert of a large (at least 6 quarts) slow cooker with nonstick spray. Place the ribs in the insert, cutting the racks in half if needed to fit. Pour the beer on the bottom of the insert. Cover and cook on low until the meat is tender but still intact (about 9 hours).
  • When the ribs are almost cooked, prepare a grill for high heat.
  • Remove the cooked ribs from the slow cooker, blot any excessive (dripping) moisture and place them on the hot grill. Cook until a nice char is formed, 10 to 15 minutes, coating them with BBQ sauce (if using) as they cook.

  • Rub the mixture evenly over the ribs. Arrange the racks upright in the slow cooker, meaty sides facing outward. (To ensure that the ribs cook evenly, prop the racks along the perimeter of the slow cooker, the bony edges of the ribs down, meatier side facing the side of the slow cooker.)
  • Pour the barbecue sauce over the ribs, cover, and cook on low until tender, 6 to 8 hours. (If you like your ribs tender but not fall-apart tender, you’ll want to start checking your ribs for doneness after 6 hours. If you let them go all the way to 8 hours they will be literally fall-off-the-bone tender.)

  • Grease your large slow cooker (6-8 quart) with nonstick spray. Stir together chili powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Rub mixture all over the top side of the ribs.
  • Brush about 2/3 of the bbq sauce over the ribs (reserve remaining bbq sauce), top and bottom. Place the ribs in the slow cooker so that they are standing up on one side and curl to fit into around the inner edge of the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
  • Preheat your oven to high broil. Use tongs to transfer ribs to a greased baking sheet so that the ribs are laying flat. Transfer to the oven and cook for 5-8 minutes. (Set a timer for 5 minutes and check them to make sure they aren’t burning). Allow to cool just long enough so that the ribs can be handled and serve immediately.

  • Lay the pork ribs out on a cutting board and make sure that the membrane from underneath the ribs has been removed (most stores and butchers do remove this).
  • Mix together all the ingredients listed above for the rub. Using your hands, massage the rub into both sides of the ribs, concentrating a bit more on the top, meaty portion of the rack. Let rest while you start the sauce.

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST BBQ BABY BACK RIBS IN THE SLOW …

  • Make the spice rub. Place the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, chipotle pepper, onion powder, and thyme in a small bowl and whisk with a fork to combine. Transfer 2 tablespoons to a small saucepan for the sauce and set aside. Measure out your mustard and salt for the ribs before you start dealing with the raw meat.
  • Remove the membrane from the ribs. Removing this chewy membrane will make for more tender ribs. Flip the racks over so that the bones are facing up. Pry a finger between the silvery membrane and the ribs to start pulling up the membrane — I like to do this between two of the rib bones. Once you have a piece of membrane pulled up, you should be able to easily pull the whole membrane off.
  • Cut the ribs into 4 rib sections. Flip the ribs back over and cut them into 4 to 5 bone sections with a sharp knife. To do this, carefully hold the rack upright and guide the knife through the meat between the bones. This makes them easier to fit into the slow cooker and portions them into individual servings at the same time.

  • In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper and paprika. Set aside.
  • Remove ribs from their packaging and pat dry. Look at the back side of each rack of ribs. If the membrane is still in tact, remove it by sliding a dull knife or your fingers underneath to loosen and peel it off. Rub the spice blend all over the meat on both sides. Cut racks into 3 even sections each.
  • Crumple foil loosely into about 5 balls the size of your fist. Place these on the bottom of a 6 quart slow cooker. Stack ribs on top of the foil. Make sure you able able to secure the lid all the way and they are not touching the lid. (In my 6.5-quart slow cooker, the sections of ribs fit tightly).
