HOT WASSAIL



Hot Wassail image

Hot wassail combines apple cider, pineapple juice and orange juice with a great cinnamon undertone for a perfect holiday drink! It can be made on the stove or in a slow cooker!

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 cups 2 quarts apple cider ((100% juice))
2 cups orange juice ((100% juice))
2 cups pineapple juice ((100% juice))
4 long cinnamon sticks
1 tsp ground cloves ((or whole))
1/4 cup sugar**
1 apple ((sliced))
1 orange sliced
12 cinnamon sticks

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a large pan or in a slow cooker.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, or heat in slow cooker on high for about 2 hours.
  • Strain the liquid before serving to remove any cinnamon stick or clove pieces.
  • Ladle into cups or mugs and enjoy! (Stir occasionally as your ladling so the spices don't all sink to the bottom)
  • Serve with orange slices, apple slices, and cinnamon sticks to, if desired.

  • Mix apple cider, orange juice, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and sugar together in a large pot over medium-low heat.
  • Place cloves and cinnamon in a tea ball; add ball to the apple cider mixture. Simmer mixture until warmed through, about 15 minutes. Serve from pot with large ladle.

I love tea and pineapple juice, but had never had them like this together. This was a wonderful switch from my apple cider recipe I usually make.

2 1/2 cups water
2 orange pekoe tea bags, regular size
3/4 cup pineapple juice
1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
3 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Add tea bags and cover; steep 10 minutes and discard tea bags.
  • Add the remaining ingredients in the saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat for 15 minutes or until well heated.
  • Discard cloves and cinnamon stick and pour into mugs.

OLD VIRGINIA WASSAIL CIDER

1 cinnamon stick (3 inches)
1 teaspoon whole cloves
2 cardamom pods, crushed
4 cups apple cider or juice
4 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
1-1/2 cups apricot nectar
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup rum, optional

Steps:

  • Place the cinnamon stick, cloves and cardamom on a double thickness of cheesecloth; bring up corners of cloth and tie with string to form a bag., In a large saucepan, combine the apple cider, pineapple juice, apricot nectar and orange juice. Add spice bag. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 15-20 minutes or until flavors are blended. Discard spice bag. Stir in rum if desired. Serve warm.

1 gallon apple cider or 1 gallon apple juice
4 1/2 cups pineapple juice (fresh frozen)
4 cups orange juice (fresh frozen)
1 (12 ounce) can frozen lemonade
2 (12 ounce) cans apricot nectar
2 sticks cinnamon
2 teaspoons whole cloves
1 teaspoon whole nutmeg

Steps:

  • Combine spices and tie in cheesecloth; add to all ingredients in large Dutch oven.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Cover and simmer 30 minutes.
  • Uncover and simmer an additional 30 minutes.
  • Remove spices.
  • This can be put in a crockpot to keep warm.
  • Serve hot.
