CHEESY MUMMY DOGS

Yield 3 dozen mummies

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
- Mix the mustard powder, salt and cayenne pepper together in a bowl.
- Dust the counter with 1/4 cup cheese. Unfold 1 sheet of the puff pastry on the cheese. (If the pastry isn't quite thawed, don't force it. Let it sit until thawed.)
- Sprinkle 1 1/2 teaspoons spice mix over the puff pastry, followed by 1/4 cup cheese.
- Using a rolling pin, roll the pastry out to 1/8 inch thick. This presses the cheese into the pastry and also smooths out any seams or wrinkles. Fold the sheet of pastry in half.
- Top with another 1 1/2 teaspoons of the spice mix and 1/4 cup cheese. Roll out again to 1/8 inch thick.
- Using a knife and cutting straight down (do not saw), cut the pastry into long strips, making half the strips 1/4 inch wide and half about 1/2 inch wide.
- Brush a hot dog piece with mustard and wrap with pastry strips, alternating between long and short strips of pastry for a mummy look. Place on a lined baking sheet. Continue with the hot dog pieces until the pastry strips are finished.
- Refrigerate at least 10 minutes and up to 1 hour. This helps firm up the mummies/straws and give them better puff in the oven. Meanwhile, prepare the rest of the mummies using the second sheet of puff pastry and the remaining cheese and hot dog pieces.
- Bake until golden brown, 15 to 25 minutes.

YUMMY MUMMY CHEESE SPREAD (MUMMY SHAPE) HALLOWEEN
Originally from Taste of Home by Revecca Eremich of Bremerton, OH. I added more milk than the original recipe. This is the cutest mummy on the Halloween buffet, and kids and adults will get a kick out of stabbing the cheese knife into the poor mummy.

Steps:
- Cut the cheese logs into pieces for the mummy's head (make it a square shape) arms (smaller and thinner) and legs (longer than the arms).
- Arrange on the platter.
- Beat cream cheese ( softened at room temperature) and milk until smooth.
- Use a pastry or plastic bag and cut a small slit for piping.
- use a basket weave tip #47 and pipe mixture over the entire mummy ( I use a cookie decorating tool. It works almost like a caulking gun. I squeeze the trigger and the mixture pipes out).
- Leave one or two longer like the mummy is coming undone.
- Add two whole peppercorns for the eyes.
- Add the pimento strip for the mouth.
- Chill until ready to serve.
- Serve with crackers.

Shape the mixture into a 10-inch round dome and place it in the baking dish. Mix the 1/3 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons prepared mustard in a small bowl until blended. Spread the mixture over the meatloaf. Bake for 1 hour. Transfer the meatloaf to a wire rack and let rest for 20 minutes.
- 2. Cook the pappardelle according to the package directions; drain and keep warm while meatloaf rests.
- To make the sauce:
- 1. Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until bubbly and thickened, about 3 minutes. Keep warm until ready to serve.
- 2. Remove the meatloaf from the pan and place on a serving plate. Cut the mozzarella ball in half. Layer the pasta strands one by one over the meatloaf to look like a mummy's wrappings, adding the mozzarella and two olives for eyes as shown. Surround the meatloaf with more olives. Serve with the sauce on the side.
