Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Appetizers

Time 2h50m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound cream cheese, at room temperature
8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated (about 2 1/2 cups)
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Ground pepper
1 cup finely chopped pecans

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, beat cream cheese with cheddar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and a generous pinch of pepper until well combined. Mix in 1/4 cup pecans. Cover cheese mixture with plastic wrap, and chill at least 2 1/2 hours or up to overnight.

BACON CHEDDAR CHEESE BALL SPREAD

Bacon Cheddar Cheese Ball Spread image

After looking at many cheese ball recipes that didn't fit my family's tastes, I made one up to serve on New Year's Eve. Everyone loved and it was super simple to put together. I didn't roll my cheese ball in chopped nuts, but you could certainly do that or even roll it in additional crumbled bacon.

Provided by Karen..

Categories     Spreads

Time 10m

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 ounces cream cheese, softened (I used light cream cheese)
1 -1 1/2 cup shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese (I used Cabot's Seriously Sharp)
5 -6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 teaspoon parsley flakes
1 1/2 teaspoons dried chives (or 1 tbl or so snipped fresh chives)
1 dash hot sauce
1 dash garlic powder
chopped pecans (optional) or walnuts (optional)
additional crumbled cooked bacon (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a med-large size bowl.
  • If your cream cheese is soft enough, you can stir this by hand or you can use a hand-mixer until well combined.
  • Spoon out onto plastic wrap big enough to fold over top and form cheese mixture into a smooth bowl, wrapping plastic wrap around ball to seal.
  • (If desired, roll cheese ball into chopped nuts or additional cooked and crumbled bacon before wrapping.).
  • Place in refrigerator for 1-2 hours so flavors blend.
  • Serve with crackers, bagel chips, veggies, etc.

Fig jam, crispy crumbled bacon, scallions, cheddar, and cream cheese combine to form a spread that's great for all of your festive gatherings, from holiday brunches to bridal showers.

  • Jalapeno Peach Cheese Ball of Darkness. Don't be afraid of the cheese ball. This chillingly good Halloween starter is coated in black sesame seeds for a dark and creepy look, but sweetness lurks inside in the form of fruit preserves added to the cream cheese filling.
  • Vegan Party Cheese Ball. Move on over, dairy—there's a new "cheese" ball in town. This vegan appetizer gets its creamy texture from a blended mixture of soaked cashews, nutritional yeast, and vegan cream cheese, with lemon and a few spices added for flavor.
  • Festive Party Cheese Ball with Pecans. This retro appetizer is made from a simple combination of cheeses that are shaped into a festive ball, then rolled in finely chopped pecans.

IT'S NOT A SOUTHERN PARTY WITHOUT A CHEESE BALL–HERE'S WHY
The first known cheese ball, according to some culinary historians, was a 1235-pound behemoth made from the milk of some 900 cows, crafted by Elder John Leland of Cheshire, Massachusetts. (Other reports say that it was not Leland who formed the cheese wheel, but a local dairy farmer named Elisha Brown, Jr.) Either way, the "Mammoth Cheese" was ...
