Homemade Cole Slaw Recipe | Easy Cole Slaw Dressing

6 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup shredded carrot
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 cup sugar
Salt and pepper

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine cabbage and carrots. In a smaller bowl, make dressing by combining mayonnaise, vinegar, celery seed, sugar, salt and pepper. Toss dressing into cabbage mixture and let chill. Serve in a family style bowl.

1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon celery seeds
3 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced
3 cups red cabbage, thinly sliced
1/2 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced into strips
1/2 cup carrots, coarsely grated and peeled
2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill, divided

Steps:

  • Whisk yogurt, mayonnaise, vinegar, onion, sugar, and celery seeds in large bowl to blend. Add green and red cabbage, bell pepper, carrots, and 1 tablespoon dill. Toss to blend. Season salad to taste with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour. (Can be made 2 hours ahead. Keep refrigerated. Toss to blend before using.) Sprinkle salad with remaining 1 tablespoon dill and serve.

Coleslaw is one of my all-time favorite foods if it has a nice, creamy dressing. After doing some research, making dozens of different dressings, and trying to find the flavor that I like, I came up with this dressing for coleslaw that became a hit. I'm always asked for this recipe. What surprised me was at a potluck when a culinary chef asked me for my recipe. He told me that it was one of the best he had ever tasted since he had left the southern part of the USA.

½ cup buttermilk
⅓ cup white sugar
