This is a dense, but very moist cake, and so easy to make. It's not overpowering with chocolate. Fluffy frosting mixes up in seconds. Change up the pudding in the frosting to your liking. I used vanilla tonight. Mix all in one bowl, and no eggs. My photo's

GRANDMA'S DEPRESSION CAKE
This is an eggless, milkless, butterless cake. " A delicious spiced cake that's easy on the budget". I found this recipe in the "Guideposts" magazine (August 2009 issue). The recipe was part of a wonderful article with the same title written by Rosemary Marbach.

GREAT DEPRESSION CAKE
This cake has many names and many variations. It is rumored to have come about during the Great Depression. In spite of the fact that it has no eggs it is nice and moist.

15 DEPRESSION-ERA FOODS MAKING A COMEBACK - EAT THIS NOT THAT
From eatthis.com
3.2/5
- Stovetop Baked Beans. Thanks to their low cost and availability during the Great Depression, beans served as the basis of many common dishes. Cheap and easy to cook, baked beans were a popular side dish (or sometimes a full meal).
- Wacky Cake. Stress baking is one of the most popular quarantine activities, and "wacky cake" (also referred to as "Depression cake") is definitely making a comeback.
- Navy Bean Soup. Ah, soup: the ultimate comfort food. Beans were used in many Depression-era recipes, and this one also includes ham, carrots, onion, and garlic—so you'll get protein, fiber, and veggies from this meal.
- Chocolate Cream Pie. Continuing with the theme of stress baking, let's talk about the deliciousness of chocolate cream pie. It's basically a combination of pudding and pie—what could be better?
- Dandelion Salad. To balance out all the sweets, people are also getting their greens by making a dandelion salad. This recipe became popular during the Great Depression because one of the ingredients is priced at "free" as long as you have dandelions in your yard.
- Potato Soup. Potato soup has never really gone out of style, but it's definitely been getting more social media love over the past few months. This soup was a Great Depression staple because it requires so few ingredients and is extremely economical.
- Peanut Butter Bread. A combination of bread and peanut butter? Yes, please! The Depression-era version of peanut butter bread only called for five ingredients—and none of them were butter, eggs, or yeast.
- Old-Fashioned Cornbread. There's no shortage of cornbread recipes out there, but the Depression-era version is making a comeback thanks to its short ingredient list.
- Depression-Era Bread. "Depression-Era Bread" contains just three ingredients—and word on the street (or, rather, the food blogs) is that you can make seven loaves for a grand total of $2.50.
- Vegetable Cabbage Soup. Cabbage was another staple during the Great Depression. For people who didn't love the taste, adding other vegetables (often from their very own Victory Gardens) to cabbage-based dishes made them more enjoyable.

- Hot Milk Cake. Through my research of Depression Era recipes, I realized that dessert was a big deal to them during this time, and did they ever know how to make some delicious desserts out of very few ingredients.
- Granny’s Cocoa Cream Pie. My husband loves chocolate pies. His mother made a great version of this pie and just like the woman who created this recipe, she too was very resourceful.
- Dandelion Salad. I love this woman’s site. She is in her mid 90’s and has her own Youtube channel to share her Depression Era meals that she ate as a child.
- Depression Era Breakfast. This is another video of Ms. Clara’s that recounts her childhood during the Great Depression. She shares what they ate for breakfast.
- Great Depression Pizza. Ms. Clara shared a few videos, lots of knowledge, and many great stories with the internet before her passing in 2013. But one of her greatest videos (in my opinion) is this Depression Era pizza.
- Grape Pie. As we all know, the Great Depression was a time of necessary resourcefulness. You had to use what you had available in order to simply survive on a day to day basis.
- Potato Casserole. Potatoes were a staple ingredient during the Depression because they were cheap, and you could grow them yourself. So it should come as no surprise that someone figured out how to take a few basic ingredients (cream of chicken soup, onion, butter, etc.)
- 9 Depression Era Meals. This site is a great Depression Era recipe resource. They literally give you 9 recipes from the Depression that you can still enjoy today.
- Pan Bread. I’ve eaten this many a time with my mother-in-law. When we wanted a bread to go with supper but didn’t have enough time to make a fresh loaf, then we’d make this bread together.
- Shoo Fly Pie. This pie not only has a great name, but it looks delicious as well. You use pretzels to make a graham cracker like crust. Then you fill the pie crust with a brown sugar and molasses filling.
