BAKED SPAM

Baked Spam image

This was on the can itself many years ago. I am sending what I make now, there are obviously changes from the original. My children/grandchildren think that this is the only way to cook Spam!

Provided by Maryellen Wample

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 35m

Yield 3-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (12 ounce) can Spam
2 teaspoons water (approx.)
1/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 dash ground cloves

  • Poke 5 - 7 holes in top of Spam. I use the end of a wooden spoon.
  • Mix remaining ingredients together. Spoon about 2 teaspoons on top and place in oven.
  • Bake about 30 minutes, pouring sauce on top every 10 minutes or so, until all sauce is gone.
  • I slice it thin and serve with parsley potatoes and peas.

JOLEAN'S BAKED SPAM LOAF

Jolean's Baked Spam Loaf image

This was a recipe of my Mom's that was a favorite to all us kids! I recently found her hand-written recipe and just had to post this (especially for Chef Bill Hilbrich who has a cookbook devoted to Spam...) When I look back on those years in the 70's when my siblings and I looked forward to this dish so much, I now realize that my Mom was just trying to "stretch her grocery budget," but how happy she must have been that we really LOVED this recipe! Funny, huh?

Provided by Stacky5

Categories     Pork

Time 30m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (12 ounce) cans Spam
10 whole cloves
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter
1 teaspoon water

Steps:

  • Lay both Spam loaves side by side in glass 8 x 4 inch loaf pan.
  • Insert 5 cloves into each Spam loaf, spaced evenly (in star shape).
  • Mix remaining ingredients well, and spread this glaze on top of both Spam loaves (letting it drip down the sides).
  • Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes (checking so it does not burn.).
  • Let cool for 5 minutes, slice and remove cloves before serving.

BREADED SPAM® STEAKS

Breaded SPAM® Steaks image

I got this recipe from my boyfriend (being a guy, he eats anything fried). This is a good snack to make when you get the munchies. It can be made in any quantity you need.

Provided by [email protected]

Categories     Meat and Poultry Recipes     Pork

Time 20m

Yield 3

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 quart vegetable oil for frying
1 (12 ounce) can fully cooked luncheon meat (such as SPAM®), cut into 1/4 inch slices
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Gently press the luncheon meat slices into the flour to coat and shake off the excess flour. Dip into the beaten egg, then press into bread crumbs. Gently toss between your hands so any bread crumbs that haven't stuck can fall away. Place the breaded luncheon meat slices onto a plate while breading the rest; do not stack.
  • Deep fry the luncheon meat a few slices at a time until hot and golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Drain on a paper towel lined plate before serving.
