APPLE SPICE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

Apple Spice Cream Cheese Frosting image

This amazing and easy-to-make Apple Spice Cream Cheese Frosting is so flavorful and is the perfect complement to spice cakes!

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup (2sticks) (226g) unsalted butter, softened ( do not soften in microwave)
3 (8 ounce) (226g) full fat cream cheese (total weight of cream cheese 678g) do not use reduced fat cream cheese or cream cheese in tub containers (do not soften in microwave)
3 cups (343g) powdered sugar
2 teaspoons (8g) vanilla extract
2 teaspoons (4g) apple pie spice **( if you do not have apple pie spice, see below)

Steps:

  • Put the softened butter in the bowl of your mixer and mix until smooth.
  • Add the powdered sugar, apple pie spice and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 to 3 minutes (longer if using a hand mixer) until light and fluffy. Scrape the bowl mid-way through.
  • Add pieces of softened cream cheese to the mixing bowl. The cream cheese should be soft enough that it combines easily into the butter/powdered sugar mixture. Beat on low/medium speed about 1 minute or until the cream cheese is blended in.
  • Makes 6 cups frosting
  • Use immediately or refrigerate. If you have beaten too long and it is too soft to pipe, just refrigerate for about 15 minutes and let it firm up again.
  • ** You can make your own Apple Pie Spice by combining: 1 1/2 teaspoon (3g) cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon (2g) nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon (1g) allspice and two dashes of cloves, stir to blend.

APPLE SPICE CAKE / BROWN SUGAR FROSTING - SO EASY

Apple Spice Cake / Brown Sugar Frosting - So Easy image

Susan Prescott gave me this wonderful idea from my Chocolate Fudge Cherry Cake comments. It smelled just wonderful baking and is so easy to make. Three ingredients is all you need. I had a spice cake mix, a can of apple pie filling, and eggs. That is it. I then made a simple brown sugar frosting... Hope you try it... Thank you...

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 spice cake mix, i used duncan heinz
1 - 21 oz can apple pie filling - i chopped the slices up a bit
3 eggs
FROSTING
5 Tbsp unsalted butter
1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp salt
3 Tbsp milk
1 1/2 c confectioners' sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Spray 9 x 13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • 2. I chopped the apples into about 1 inch chunks. In a medium bowl, add cake mix, three eggs, and the apples with thickening.
  • 3. Using a spatula, mix well. Make sure all is incorporated well, batter will be thick.
  • 4. Spread into cake pan evenly.
  • 5. Bake for 30 minutes. When cake only has 5 minutes left; start the frosting if using.
  • 6. Frosting: In a small pan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in brown sugar and salt. Cook, stirring, until the sugar melts. Add the milk, bring to a boil, and pour into a mixing bowl. Cool for 10 minutes.
  • 7. Stir in confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Beat well; if the mixture seems too thin, add more confectioners' sugar. Use the frosting while it is still warm or it will firm up while it cools and you won't be able to spread it. I spread the frosting on the warm cake.
  • 8. You could also add nuts to the cake or frosting! Enjoy!!!!

APPLE SPICE CAKE WITH BROWN BUTTER FROSTING

Apple Spice Cake with Brown Butter Frosting image

This Apple Spice Cake with Brown Butter Frosting is made with real apples, a touch of spice, and topped with a nutty and delicious brown butter frosting.

Provided by Nicole Nared-Washington from Brown Sugar Food Blog

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h45m

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 c. light brown sugar, packed
1 c. vegetable oil
½ c. sugar
3 large eggs
2 tsp. Vanilla extract
2 tsp. Baking powder
½ tsp. Baking soda
2 tsp. Pumpkin Spice
1 tsp. Salt
3 c. flour
3 Granny Smith apples, grated
For Icing
1 stick butter
3 c. powdered sugar
3 tbsp. Milk
Pinch of salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 Degrees. Grease a bundt pan with non-stick baking spray
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the light brown sugar and granulated sugar along with oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Use a hand-held or standing mixer and mix the ingredients until well blended.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, add the baking powder, baking soda, salt, flour, pumpkin spice, and whisk together. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients one cup at a time mixing each cup of dry ingredients well into the wet ingredients.
  • Take the grated apples and fold them into the batter. Pour the batter into the greased bundt pan and spread the top evenly. Place the bundt cake into the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick can be inserted and comes out clean. Once finished allow to cool for about 10 minutes and turn onto a cool rack.
  • In a small saucepan, add the stick of butter and allow to melt on medium-high heat. The butter will begin to boil and as it does it will turn into a light brown/ amber color. Once this happens, remove from heat and strain into a bowl using a fine-mesh strainer. Place back into the refrigerator and allow it to become solid again.
  • Once this has happened. Youll want it to sit at room temperature to soften slightly. In a medium mixing bowl, add the browned butter, powdered sugar, and milk and mix. Continue to add milk a teaspoon at a time to allow it to become thinner if you'll like. Once the cake has completely cooled, pour the icing over the cake and allow it to set and serve.

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons bourbon, apple brandy, or rum (optional)
1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
2 medium Fuji or Gala apples (13 to 14 ounces total), peeled, halved, cored, cut into 1/3-inch cubes
1 1/2 cups finely chopped pecans (about 6 ounces)
Frosting:
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
3 cups powdered sugar (measured, then sifted)
Coarsely chopped toasted pecans (for garnish)
Special Equipment
2 9-inch-diameter cake pans with 2-inch-high sides

Steps:

  • For cake:
  • Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 350°F. Butter and flour two 9-inch-diameter cake pans with 2-inch high sides. Line bottom of each pan with parchment paper round. Whisk first 7 ingredients in medium bowl. Using electric mixer, beat 1 cup butter in large bowl until fluffy. Add both sugars and beat until smooth. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla, then bourbon, if desired (mixture may look curdled). Add flour mixture to egg mixture in 3 additions alternately with applesauce in 2 additions, beating until blended after each addition. Stir in apples and pecans. Divide batter between cake pans; smooth tops.
  • Bake cakes until tester inserted into center of each comes out clean, about 50 minutes. Transfer cakes to racks and cool in pans 15 minutes. Cut around pan sides to loosen cakes. Invert cakes onto racks; peel off parchment paper. Place another rack atop 1 cake and invert again so that cake is rounded side up. Repeat with second cake. Cool completely. DO AHEAD: Can be made 1 day ahead. Wrap each cake in plastic and stoer at room temperature.
  • For frosting:
  • Using electric mixer, beat cream cheese and butter in large bowl until smooth. Beat in vanilla extract and pinch of salt. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until frosting is smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  • Using long serrated knife, trim off rounded tops of cakes to make level; brush off any loose crumbs. Transfer 1 cake to platter, trimmed side up. Drop half of frosting (about 11/2 cups) by spoonfuls atop cake. Spread frosting evenly to edges of cake. Top with second cake, trimmed side down. Drop remaining frosting by spoonfuls onto top of cake, leaving sides of cake plain. Spread frosting to top edges of cake, swirling and creating peaks, if desired. Sprinkle with pecans. Let cake stand at room temperature 1 hour to allow frosting to set slightly. DO AHEAD: Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover with cake dome and refrigerate. Let cake stand at room temperature at least 2 hours before serving.

1 cup pecans (roughly chopped)
1 package cream cheese frosting (8 ounce, room temperature)
1/4 cup butter (softened)
2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup golden brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine apples and sugar. Stir in oil, eggs, and vanilla.
  • In another mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Add the flour mixture to the apple mixture. Add milk and stir until just combined. Add chopped pecans.
  • Pour into prepared 9x13 inch pan. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  • To make the frosting: Beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add butter and continue to beat until smooth scraping down sides when needed. Add vanilla and brown sugar. Beat for 5 minutes until it is light and fluffy and the sugar has dissolved. Spread evenly on top of the cake. Refrigerate after frosting.
