VERY VANILLA FROSTING

Very Vanilla Frosting image

This is my easy, delicious frosting recipe for sugar cookie cut-outs. I use vanilla bean paste for an intense vanilla flavor and because I love to see the specks of vanilla beans throughout. If you cannot find vanilla bean paste, you may substitute with 2 tsp. vanilla extract. The frosting turns out smooth and creamy and sets up nicely.

Provided by MarthaStewartWanabe

Categories     Dessert

Time 10m

Yield 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 -2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons butter, melted (salted butter preferred)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
food coloring (optional)

Steps:

  • In a medium mixing bowl, add powdered sugar, butter, milk and vanilla bean paste.
  • With a spoon, stir ingredients together until moistened. Form a well in the center of the mixture and add food coloring if desired.
  • With a hand-held electric mixer, beat on high for two minutes or until smooth and creamy. If a stiffer frosting is desired, add a little more powdered sugar at a time until desired consistency is reached. For a thinner frosting, use less powdered sugar or add a little more milk at a time until desired consistency.
  • Spread frosting onto cooled cookies. Allow frosted cookies to sit at room temperature for 30-45 minutes in order for frosting to become firm enough to pack cookies away in an air-tight container. Be sure to place a sheet of wax paper between each layer of cookies to prevent them from sticking together.

QUICK VANILLA FROSTING

Quick Vanilla Frosting image

This recipe is at least 90 years old, my grandmother says they used it a lot during the depression. Also, you can substitute lemon, almond, or whatever for the vanilla if you're so inclined, but I like vanilla the best. It's also fat free.

CREAMY VANILLA FROSTING

Creamy Vanilla Frosting image

This is the recipe that I use for the Cut out frosted butter cookies. This recipe is also in the Best Foods of Christmas cookbook. I always double this recipe so we have plenty of frosting to go around for everyone to decorate. I also divide the frosting into thirds. I'll take one bowl of frosting and add red food coloring to make it pink and add peppermint extract. In another bowl of frosting I'll add green food coloring for green frosting. In the other bowl of frosting I keep it white for white frosting. YEAH now for the FUN part.

FLUFFY VANILLA FROSTING

Fluffy Vanilla Frosting image

Memories of childhood birthday cakes will be evoked by this sweet and Fluffy Vanilla Frosting, made quickly with just three ingredients and a handheld mixer (a standing mixer will take even less time). This frosting can also be tinted with food color; add a drop at a time and stir with a flexible spatula until well combined before adding more. This recipe is from "Martha Stewart's Cupcakes."

Categories     Food & Cooking     Dessert & Treats Recipes

Yield Makes about 4 cups

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 pound (4 cups) confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • With an electric mixer, beat butter on medium-high speed until pale and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  • Reduce speed to medium. Add the confectioners' sugar, 1/2 cup at a time, beating well after each addition and scraping down sides of bowl as needed; after every two additions, raise speed to high and beat 10 seconds to aerate frosting, then return to medium-high. This process should take about 5 minutes. Frosting will be very pale and fluffy.
  • Add vanilla, and beat until frosting is smooth. If not using immediately, frosting can be refrigerated up to 10 days in an airtight container. Before using, bring to room temperature, and beat on low speed until smooth again, about 5 minutes.

VANILLA BUTTERCREAM FROSTING (FROM SPRINKLES CUPCAKES)

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting (From Sprinkles Cupcakes) image

My sister got this buttercream frosting off the box of a Sprinkles Cupcake mix, made famous by Oprah. My sister said this was amazing. Update: I have finally gotten around to making this myself. I will say, that I don't like my desserts overly sweet and. though this was very good, I think I would probably decrease the amount of sugar for my personal taste. I'm glad everyone else has liked it as-is, though. :)

VEGAN VANILLA FROSTING RECIPE - THE SPRUCE EATS
Most vanilla buttercream frosting recipes use a much higher ratio of powdered sugar to margarine, often as high as 10-to-1, while this recipe uses a 1-to-1 ratio. If you find it is too much margarine for the amount of sugar, feel free to change the proportions to suit your tastes. This is a forgiving recipe in that respect.
