Apple Crisp image

Provided by Kelsey Nixon

Categories     dessert

Time 1h10m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

6 baking apples, peeled, cored, and cut into wedges
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
12 tablespoons butter (1 1/2 sticks), chilled and cut into small pieces
1/2 cup nuts, coarsely chopped and toasted

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • For the fruit filling:
  • In a large mixing bowl, toss together the apples, lemon juice, sugar, and flour. Pour the apple mixture into a buttered 2-quart baking dish and set aside.
  • For the topping:
  • In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. With a food processor, a pastry blender, or your fingers work the butter into the flour mixture just until it comes together and large clumps form. Fold nuts into mixture.
  • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit. Bake the apple crisp until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown and crisp, about 45 minutes.
  • Serve the crisps warm with vanilla bean ice cream or fresh whipped cream, if desired.

APPLE CRISP

Apple Crisp image

One of the definitive desserts of fall, apple crisp is easy and economical. Test kitchen tip: Empire, Gala, or Braeburn apples are especially good in this recipe.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Dessert & Treats Recipes

Time 1h25m

Number Of Ingredients 9

3/4 cup all-purpose flour, (spooned and leveled)
1/4 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold, cut into small cubes
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
3 pounds apples, such as Empire, Gala, or Braeburn, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch chunks
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar. Cut butter into flour, using a pastry blender or two knives, until mixture is the texture of coarse meal. Add oats, and use your hands to toss and squeeze mixture until large, moist clumps form. Transfer to freezer to chill while you prepare apples.
  • In another large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Transfer to a shallow 2-quart baking dish, and sprinkle with topping mixture. Place baking dish on a rimmed baking sheet, and bake until golden and bubbling, 55 to 65 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes before serving.

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (94g) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled)
3/4 cup (150g) packed light or dark brown sugar

Remove from the oven, place on a wire rack, and allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm, room temperature, or cold- plain or with salted caramel and/or vanilla ice cream.
  • Cover leftovers and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

EASY APPLE-BLUEBERRY CRISP

Easy Apple-Blueberry Crisp image

This is a variation off the Orchard Mills Apple Crisp package. I had about a cup of frozen blueberries left after making Recipe #288137, so I thought I would give this a try for quick Saturday night dessert. Also, I purchased too many Granny Smith apples a little bit ago and had to find a way to use them up. Put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side for something extra special! :)

Provided by VickyJ

Categories     Dessert

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST APPLE CRISP RECIPE

How to Make The BEST Apple Crisp Recipe image

This easy apple crisp recipe with it's brown sugar and oatmeal crumble streusel will take you right back to the best days of childhood.

Provided by Heidi

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h30m

Number Of Ingredients 11

6 cups Granny Smith apples (green apples) (, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/4" slices (about 9-10 green apples))
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup melted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with the sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoon flour, salt cinnamon, and nutmeg, and set aside for the sugar to soften the apples and macerate, creating a light syrup. In a smaller mixing bowl, toss the oats, 1 1/2 cups flour, brown sugar, and baking powder together, then use your fingers to mix in the melted butter, gently making small clumps where you can.
  • Layer the sugared apples and their juice in a 9 X 13 baking dish and sprinkle evenly with the oatmeal mixture, but don't pack it tightly. Bake uncovered for 50-60 minutes until the apples are soft and tender and the sauce has thickened and is bubbly. If the crisp seems to be browning too much, cover with foil for the remaining cooking time.
  • Let the apple crisp cool for 20-30 minutes before serving for the caramel sauce to thicken. Divide in bowls and top with vanilla ice cream or whip cream, and serve.

MULTIGRAIN APPLE CRISPS - SMITTEN KITCHEN
My apple crisp is somewhat similar to this, although the use of olive oil in place of some of the butter intrigues me. I’m a huge fan of introducing omega-3 where I can! I also have nut allergies, so I’ll probably try just substituting some barley flour for the almond flour, since it has a slightly nutty taste. And now I’m going to have to buy some ramekins because this is adorable.
