This was the way my Grandma Ruth would make ham steaks for a nice lunch. They go well with potato salad and corn on the cob (I think they go well with any sides!).

2 large ham steaks (about 1/2 inch thick each)
1 cup apple jelly
2/3 cup prepared yellow mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Trim the fat around the edges of the ham steaks.
  • Melt the apple jelly in a large skillet over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Add mustard and pepper; mix in well.
  • Place ham steaks into skillet and spoon sauce over them to cover.
  • Cook, uncovered, about 5 minutes per side, basting often.
  • Turn out ham to a serving platter.
  • Cut into serving size pieces as desired.

1 (5 pound) fully cooked sliced ham
¼ cup whole cloves
1 cup pineapple juice
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup honey
2 oranges, juiced

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place the ham in a roasting pan and dot with cloves. In a saucepan combine the pineapple juice, brown sugar, honey and orange juice. Stir and simmer over medium-low heat until thickened, about 10 minutes. Pour the glaze over the ham.
  • Bake the ham uncovered for 1 hour in the preheated oven.

2/3 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 to 1.5 pound ham steak

Steps:

  • Preheat your grill on a medium-high setting for 5 minutes. In a medium bowl, mix the sugar, honey and mustard together well. (It will be a little thick, but don't worry. It thins out as it interacts with the heat from the grill.) Place the unwrapped ham steak on the preheated grill and brush half of the glaze on top. Let it heat for 3 minutes. Turn the ham steak over and brush the other half of the glaze on the part that is facing the top. Let it heat for 3 more minutes.

1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 (7 -8 ounce) ham steaks, 1/2 inch thick
1 tablespoon butter

Steps:

  • Whisk sugar and lime juice in small bowl to form paste; rub over both sides of ham steak. Place ham on plate and refrigerate at least 1 hour and up to 3 hours (paste may liquefy).
  • Melt butter in medium skillet over medium heat. Add ham to skillet with sugar paste still clinging and sauté until brown and heated through, about 3 minutes per side.

This is an easy way to get the Glazed Ham Taste without cooking the whole Ham. The longer you let them marinate the more they taste like curred pork chops that are so expensive. This is simple and can be made on the grill or cooked inside in a frying pan. It is also great for tailgating @ South Carolina football games.

12 -16 ounces crushed unsweetened pineapple
1 cup orange juice (with or without pulp your choice)
3/4-1 cup dark brown sugar
4 center cut ham steaks
butter or margarine

Steps:

  • Mix pineapple, orange juice, and brown sugar in a large Zip-Lock bag.
  • Place ham Steaks and marinate for at least 2 hrs., (I have let them sit overnight and it is better.) This is not included in prep. time.
  • Cook on the grill over indirect heat until sugar caramelizes or melt butter inside of frying pan over medium heat. I usually use the frying pan cover for the first half of the cooking time.

Or you might buy a half ham and slice it into steaks at home. I have also just fried the steak on the stove, and then added the glaze to it.
