Sesame Noodles - Instant Pot Recipe - (4/5) image

1 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup soy sauce
3 tsp maple syrup
1/4 cup rice vinegar
A few shakes of ground ginger
3 cloves of minced garlic
2 tbsp sesame seed oil
Red pepper flakes to taste
1/2 box dry spaghetti noodles, broken into thirds
Sesame seeds (optional)
Green onions (optional)

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients to the pot and then add spaghetti noodles broken into thirds Give it a quick stir and set on manual for 6 minutes. Use a QR. Top with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

12 ounces thin noodles
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup canola oil
3 tablespoons pure sesame oil
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1/2 teaspoon hot chili oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 green onions, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook the noodles according to the package instructions.
  • Meanwhile, whisk together the soy sauce, canola oil, sesame oil, sugar, vinegar, chili oil and garlic in a bowl. Taste and adjust the ingredients as needed.
  • Drain the noodles. Pour the sauce over the warm noodles and toss to coat. Sprinkle with the green onions and toss. Serve in a bowl with chopsticks. Yummy!

HOT AND COLD SESAME NOODLES

Based closely on Rachael Ray Cooking 'Round the Clock. There are a bunch of other sesame noodle recipes here so I wasn't going to post it but I really loved this. It tastes better cold, the next day in my opinion. I used 2 tablespoons of Sriracha hot sauce and it was a bit spicy for the kids so if you have someone who does not like spicy food you might want to cut it back.

1/2 lb spaghetti
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/3 cup smooth peanut butter, softened in microwave
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons hot sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 1/2 cups cabbage, shredded
3 carrots, peeled and shredded
1 cup bean sprouts
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Cook spaghetti and drain well.
  • In large bowl whisk soy sauce and softened peanut butter til totally incorporated.
  • Add vinegar, hot sauce and sesame oil and whisk into sauce.
  • Add cooked spaghetti, cabbage, carrots and sprouts. Toss to combine and coat everything evenly with the sauce.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

This recipe originally called for ground pork, but i altered it to suit us. Feel free to use pork if you prefer! Adapted from a recipe in *recipes+* magazine. According to the magazine, it comes in at just AU$2.50 per serve! You can serve this in lettuce leaves for a nice presentation.

125 g rice vermicelli
1 tablespoon peanut oil
450 g ground chicken
1/2 small Chinese cabbage, shredded
1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 teaspoons fish sauce
2 cups frozen stir fry vegetables, thawed
1/3 cup coriander, chopped
1 long red fresh chili pepper, finely chopped
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted

Steps:

  • Place vermicelli in a heatproof bowl. Cover with boiling water; let soak for 5 minutes to soften. Drain. Using kitchen scissors, snip into short lengths.
  • Meanwhile, heat a wok over high heat. Add oil; swirl to coat. Stirfry chicken, stirring to break up lumps, for 5 minutes or until colour changes. Add Chinese cabbage and spice; stir-fry for 1 minute.
  • Stir in sauces and vegies. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until vegies are hot. Stir in coriander and chilli. Add noodles; toss until combined.
  • Spoon into bowls; sprinkle with sesame seeds.

3/4 lb linguine
4 green onions, chopped

4 boneless pork chops, cut into 1 inch pieces
1/3 cup soy sauce or 1/3 cup mock soy sauce
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1/4 cup turbinado sugar
1 tablespoon warm water
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 lb wheat pasta
1/3 cup soy sauce or 1/3 cup mock soy sauce
1/3 cup sesame oil
1/4 cup turbinado sugar
1/2 cup green onion, sliced
1/3 cup sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Mix 1/3 cup mock soy sauce, garlic, 1/4 cup sugar, water and ginger together in a bowl.
  • Add pork pieces and marinade in refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  • At medium heat, add 1 Tablespoon of sesame oil to a large nonstick pan. Make sure it's nonstick because the sugar in the marinade is a nightmare otherwise.
  • Add the pork pieces, allowing any excess marinade to drip off before adding the pork to the pan. Throw out the marinade when all pork pieces are in the pan.
  • Cook the pieces about 10 minutes or so, stirring and turning pieces to get all the sides.
  • While the pork is cooking, get a small bowl and mix 1/3 cup mock soy sauce, 1/3 cup sesame oil and 1/4 cup turbinado sugar, making sure all the sugar is dissolved.
  • Boil noodles and drain, then place in a large bowl.
  • Pour the sauce mixture over the noodles and toss with the green onions and sesame seeds.
  • As the pork pieces finish cooking, add to the noodles and then serve.
  • When I say wheat pasta I am talking about semolina, durum or any type of Asian noodle that uses only wheat flour and water -- no eggs. This recipe needs a noodle like thin spaghetti or angel hair, but thicker noodles work fine. I would not use shaped pasta like penne or macaronis.
  • If you leave the ginger in, don't have it again for 4 days (or turmeric or cardamon).
  • I have submitted the recipe for mock soy sauce (recipe #256996). We use that because we can't have soy and wheat on the same days.
