Youngsters love to lend a hand with this recipe. Our two girls help me measure, pour, stir, shape and, of course, eat the chewy pretzel rounds when they're done! -Roberta Spieker, Fort Collins, Colorado

Number Of Ingredients 7

Ingredients

1 package (1/4 ounces) active dry yeast
1-1/2 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 large egg white, lightly beaten
Coarse salt or colored sugar

Steps:

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add 2 cups flour, sugar and salt. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough., Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6 minutes. Cover and let rest for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 425°., Divide dough into 16 portions. Roll each portion into a 15-in. rope. Fold each rope in half and twist two or three times; shape into a circle and pinch ends together. , Place on greased baking sheets. Brush with egg white; sprinkle with salt or sugar. Bake for 12-15 minutes.

These are perfect for school kids or that quick treat to take to a friend's house. I really like using the red-striped kiss on a pretzel at Christmas, topped with a red m&m.

1 Hershey chocolate kiss
1 candy, m&m
1 pretzel, round

Steps:

Heat the oven to 170°F Set a number of bite-size, waffle-shaped pretzels (one for each treat) in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, then top each pretzel with an unwrapped Hershey's Kiss or Hershey's Hug.
Bake for 4 to 6 minutes (the white chocolate will melt more quickly), until the chocolates feel soft when touched with a wooden spoon. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and quickly press an M&M's candy into the center of each Kiss.
Allow the treats to cool for a few minutes, then place them in the refrigerator to set, about 10 minutes. Place handfuls of the candies in clear plastic bags and tie on colorful ribbons.

1 package (10 ounces) pretzel rods, halved
1-1/2 cups green and red sprinkles

Steps:

In a microwave, melt white baking chips; stir until smooth. Dip pretzels in chocolate, allowing excess to drip off. Add sprinkles; place on waxed paper until set. Arrange pretzels in a circle on a decorative serving plate.
