PLANTATION MINT ICE TEA.

Plantation Mint Ice Tea. image

I've used a Mr Coffee Iced Tea Maker. The major benefit is that when your ice tea pitcher is empty, you can have a deliciously fresh batch in 10 minutes. I know some of you have access to fresh mint but this is stronger & tastier. The Ice Tea maker can be found at Walmart for approx $15. They last years. It's simple to use & the...

Provided by Bobbi Gulla

Categories     Drinks

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 bigelow plantation mint tea bags
2 round fluted coffee filter
1/2 c granulated sugar
? water
1/2 7 lb bag of ice

Steps:

  • 1. Use "Mr Coffee Iced tea Maker". Other cheaper brand ofice tea maker don't work. You get what you pay for. Its worth it! Read instructions thoroughly to use machine properly. I got my maker at Walmart for $15. It's been working well for 5 years!
  • 2. Take pitcher and use markings to indicate how much water is needed. Make the 3 qt...the 2 qt goes to fast & the tea stays good for a week [mine never makes it that long]. Pour water into space at top of iced tea maker.
  • 3. Take bag of ice and throw on the ground HARD until it breaks up the ice that may have melted & formed lumps rather than cubes. Fill pitcher to designated 3 QT marker.
  • 4. Put 2 round, fluted coffee filters in the brewing cup. 2 filters help to keep the iced tea & sugar longer in the brewing cup for stonger tea.
  • 5. Take 8 tea bags in place in brewing cup making sure they cover as much bottom area as possible.
  • 6. Fill the rest of the brewing cup with sugar. I may take a few tries to find your family's sweetness prefernce. The sugar also brings out the natural sweetness in the mint flavor of the tea bags.
  • 7. Put filled brewing cup in proper place of ice tea maker. Place water dispenser directly over brewing cup.
  • 8. Set Brew strenth all the way to the right for strong tea.
  • 9. Push "start" button. It will light up to indicate you pressed it hard enough.
  • 10. When "start" button goes off, your tea is ready. You will notice the final sound of gurgling steaming water & ice crackling. You'll also enjoy the fragrance of the mint or lemon while its brewing.
  • 11. Immedately enjoy your icy cold beverage. If you need larger quantites, get regular picthers to store pre-made batches in, so you can use the maker's pitcher to make more.
  • 12. Note: Iced tea used to make my stomach feel acidy. Especially Sun Tea, for those of us old enoughto remember this phenomenon. I don't know why, but this iced tea never gives me acid stomach.
  • 13. Feedback appreciated!

LEMONGRASS AND CINNAMON HAWAIIAN PLANTATION ICED TEA RECIPE

Lemongrass and Cinnamon Hawaiian Plantation Iced Tea Recipe image

Hawaii has changed Iced Tea for me and it's all because of Plantation Iced Tea. Like an Arnold Palmer but with pineapple juice, the best I've come across is from Diamond Head Grill and this is my shot at recreating it, as a Lemongrass and Cinnamon Hawaiian Plantation Iced Tea recipe.

Provided by Aida Mollenkamp

Categories     Drinks

Time 3h

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 quarts (16 cups) ice water
10 bags black tea
1 lemongrass stalk
1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
2 bunches fresh mint leaves ((about 2 1/2 ounces) divided)
1/2 cup ice cubes (plus more for serving)
4 cups chilled 100% pure pineapple juice ((no sugar added))
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice ((from about 4 limes))

Steps:

  • Bring water to a simmer in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat (don't let it boil), about 5 minutes. Add tea, cover partially, and let steep until the flavor is stronger than desired but not bitter, about 8 to 10 minutes. Meanwhile, trim the ends off the lemongrass, and cut the stalk into 2-inch pieces. Cut each 2-inch piece in half lengthwise then bruise by lightly hitting with the back of a wooden spoon.
  • Once the tea has steeped, discard the tea, add lemongrass, cinnamon, and mint (minus about 6 to 8 stems you'll want to reserve for garnish) and let cool to room temperature, about 1 hour. Add the ice to the tea, then stir in the pineapple juice, and sugar or honey. Place in the refrigerator to cool completely, about 2 hours.
  • Once the tea is cold, discard the cinnamon, lemongrass, and mint and stir in the lime juice. Taste and adjust with more lime juice or sugar as desired. Serve iced tea over ice and garnish each glass with a sprig of mint.

  • Eases Sore Throat. It is never nice to have a sore throat, this is why the combination of mint tea with lemon and honey is my go-to tea for when I have a cold.
  • Helps Digestion. Mint tea also helps with digestion and it can be the perfect tea after a heavy meal. Even for those moments when you feel you had too much to eat and the digestion is slowed down, drinking a warm cup of mint tea will make you feel better.
  • Eases Bloating. Mint tea also helps to ease the sensation of being bloated. Because of the menthol contained, it helps to move the gas through the body and stimulates the bile flow.
