BOBBY'S GOULASH

Bobby's Goulash image

This classic goulash recipe from Paula Deen's son Bobby is a great dish on cold winter weather nights. Ingredients include lean ground beef, elbow macaroni and homemade house seasoning. Prep time is approximately 10 minutes and cooking time takes 45 minutes over low heat on the stove top.

Provided by Bobby Deen

Categories     classics     comfort food     guys night     winter

Time 10m

Yield 10 to 12

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 tablespoon Paula Deen's House Seasoning
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 bay leaves
2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
2 (15 oz) cans diced tomatoes
2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
3 cups water
3 cloves chopped garlic
2 large chopped onion
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 tablespoon Paula Deen Seasoned Salt
2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni

Steps:

  • In a Dutch oven, sauté the ground beef over medium-high heat until no pink remains. Break up the meat while sautéing. Spoon off any grease. Add the onions and garlic to the pot and sauté until they are tender, about 5 minutes. Add 3 cups water, along with the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, soy sauce, House Seasoning and seasoned salt. Stir well. Place a lid on the pot and allow this to cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Add the elbow macaroni, stir well, return the lid to the pot, and simmer for about 30 minutes. Turn off the heat, remove the bay leaves, and allow the mixture to sit about 30 minutes more before serving. Serve with garlic bread and a salad.

This is a Paula Deen recipe from Good Housekeeping magazine. I scribbled it down in the doctor's office on the back of a receipt and it looks really good.

Categories     Meat

Time 1h

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 lbs ground beef
2 large yellow onions
3 garlic cloves
3 cups water
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons italian seasoning
3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon paula's house seasoning (or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder & 1/2 t. black pepper)
1 tablespoon seasoning salt
2 cups uncooked macaroni

Steps:

  • Cook the beef, drain.
  • Add onions and garlic. Saute for about 10 minutes.
  • Stir in everything else BUT the macaroni.
  • Heat to boiling, simmer 20 minutes.
  • Stir in macaroni, heat to boiling. Simmer 20 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let sit for 30 minutes.
  • I'd be curious to see if the macaroni got overdone with these cooking/sitting times. I think that I'd check it after that last 20 minute simmer. Also, I'm not sure about the measurements for the alternative house seasoning. That's what the magazine said, but I bet it will need more than 1/2 teaspoons of each.

BOBBY'S GOULASH

Bobby's Goulash image

This is a goulash recipe from Good Housekeeping, named for Paula Deen's son. It was hearty and had good flavor. We did not have any of Paula Deen's seasonings, so we used our own season salt and a combo of salt, peppper, and garlic powder for the house seasoning. Her house seasoning recipe is available on this website.

GOULASH

Goulash image

Not to be confused with the Hungarian dish of paprika-spiced stewed meat and vegetables, this American version of goulash, also referred to as "slumgullion," is made with ground beef and pasta. The beef is cooked down with plenty of aromatics and spices and combined with tomatoes, pasta, and cheese to create the perfect comfort meal. We added paprika to the dish in a nod to its Hungarian counterpart.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     main-dish

Time 45m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon tomato paste
One 15-ounce can diced tomatoes
One 15-ounce can tomato sauce
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup low-sodium beef broth
8 ounces cavatappi pasta
4 ounces sharp Cheddar, shredded on the large holes of a box grater (about 1 cup), plus more for serving
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, plus more for serving

Steps:

  • Heat the olive oil in a Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Add the beef and cook, stirring and breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until browned and no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon salt, a few grinds of pepper, the paprika, and Italian seasoning to the beef and stir to combine. Cook, stirring, until the paprika begins to toast and become fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir the tomato paste into the beef mixture to coat, then cook until the paste thickens and deepens in color, about 2 minutes.
  • Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire and beef broth to the beef mixture and stir, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot, to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to medium low and add the cavatappi. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is al dente, 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Remove the pot from the heat. Gently stir in the parsley and Cheddar until combined and the cheese starts to melt. Divide the goulash among 6 bowls and top with more shredded Cheddar and chopped parsley.

EAT YOUR HEART OUT PAULA DEAN - GOULASH

Eat Your Heart out Paula Dean - Goulash image

I saw a Paula Dean Goulash recipe going around on Facebook. My mom used to make "Beefy Macaroni" when I was a kid. I took the best of both recipes and came up with the best Goulash/Beefy Macaroni I have ever had. I like to make a big pot of this and freeze for a quick dinner during the week. If you do not add the macaroni, this recipe will make 2 quarts and freezes well. Just make 1/2 a box of macaroni for each quart. It is even better when it is reheated. Enjoy!

Provided by Debbie in Florida

Categories     Pork

Time 50m

Yield 2 Quarts Without Macaroni, 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb ground pork or 1 lb ground beef
3 -4 shallots, Diced
1 large green pepper, Diced
2 garlic cloves
2 teaspoons garlic salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon italian seasoning
1 tablespoon soy sauce
28 ounces stewed tomatoes, Diced
15 ounces tomato sauce
8 ounces baby portabella mushrooms, Sliced
1 cup colby-monterey jack cheese, Shredded
1 lb elbow macaroni

Steps:

  • Cook ground pork (or ground beef) in skillet with onion, green pepper, garlic, garlic salt, black pepper and Italian seasoning.
  • In another skillet cook mushrooms. Set aside when done.
  • Once meat is thoroughly cooked, add soy sauce, stewed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Simmer for 20-25 minutes. Cook down to reduce some of the liquid.
  • Boil macaroni according to package directions, drain very well.
  • Add mushrooms and macaroni. Mix together.
  • Top with cheese and serve.
  • I like to make a big pot of goulash and freeze for a quick dinner during the week. If you do not add the macaroni, this recipe will make 2 quarts and freezes well. Just make 1/2 a box of macaroni for each quart. It is even better when it is reheated. Enjoy!
