20 small fresh okra pods
1 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 dash black pepper
vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Wash okra, trim steams, drain well.
  • Pour buttermilk over okra, set aside.
  • Combine next 5 ingredients mixing well. Remove each okra pod from buttermilk and carefully roll in cornmeal mixture.
  • Drop into deep hot oil; fry 3 to 5 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
