Time 7h20m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 (25 ounce) jars pasta sauce
1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
2 cups mozzarella cheese, divided
1 cup grated parmesan cheese

  • Cook ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until beef is no longer pink. Stir in seasonings to evenly coat meat; stir in pasta sauce. Set aside.
  • Mix 1 cup mozzarella, the ricotta and parmesan in a medium bowl. Spoon 2 cups of meat sauce into the slow cooker; top with 2 cups ziti. Drop half of the cheese mixture, by rounded tablespoons, over ziti; carefully spread over ziti using back of spoon. Layer with 2 cups meat sauce, the remaining ziti and remaining cheese. Add remaining meat sauce, completely covering all the ziti and cheese. Place lid on slow cooker.
  • Cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or high for 4 to 5 hours or until noodles are tender.
  • Carefully remove lid to allow steam to escape. Sprinkle food with the remaining 1 cup mozzarella; let stand 10 minutes until melted. Serve directly from slow cooker.

GLUTEN-FREE BAKED ZITI

Gluten-Free Baked Ziti image

I always think of my wife's best friend, Long Island, while thinking about a baked ziti recette. He likes Italian food like many New Yorkers. His wife produces classic Baked Ziti while we are out at his place for supper. It's not gluten-free. I have only a taste.

Provided by Carelli

Categories     Gluten-Free

Time 5h20m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 LB Ground Beef
1 Red Pepper (chopped)
1 White Onion (chopped)
2 Jars Pasta Sauce (Be sure it's Gluten Free!)
2 Cups Mozzarella Cheese
1 Cup Ricotta Cheese
1/2 tsp Italian Season
1/2 tsp Pepper
1/2 tsp Salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Heat a pan to medium and add the ground beef to brown.
  • Add the chopped onion, red pepper and spices to the ground beef.
  • While the beef is browning, boil your pasta. I recommend boiling for 8 minutes, then testing to see if it is al dente. You are going to be baking this, so the pasta will continue to cook and soften while it bakes. You do not want soggy pasta. No one likes soggy pasta.
  • While the pasta is cooking, add the two jars of sauce to your ground beef mixture and let simmer until the pasta is cooked.
  • Add a ladle full of the sauce mixture to the bottom of a lasagna pan.
  • Add a layer of pasta to the lasagna pan, a layer of sauce on top of the pasta and then dollop with ricotta and sprinkle with mozzarella.
  • Continue layering pasta, sauce and cheeses until you have filled the pan and/or run out of ingredients.
  • Cover with tin foil and bake for 30 minutes or until hot throughout.

  • Make foil collar for slow cooker by folding 2 pieces of foil to make 2 strips measuring approximately 18x14-inches each. Line inside of slow cooker insert with foil strips and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In large heavy-bottomed pot, heat oil over medium-high heat until just smoking. Cook sausage, stirring occasionally to break up large chunks until cooked through and browned, about 7-8 minutes. • Reduce heat to Medium-low, and add raw ziti and cook, stirring constantly, until edges of pasta are translucent about 3-4 minutes. Turn off heat and stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, scraping up any bits from the bottom of the pan. Scrape mixture into prepared slow cooker insert. Cover and cook on low until pasta is tender, about 3 hours.
  • Use tongs to remove foil collar from the slow cooker. Spoon ricotta over ziti and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Turn off slow cooker, cover, and let the cheese melt for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with basil and serve.
