TARTE AU SUCRE FRANCAISE (FRENCH CANADIAN SUGAR PIE)

Tarte Au Sucre Francaise (French Canadian Sugar Pie) image

My grandmother use to make a "tarte au sucre" for every family gathering. The kids would be wired all day, lol. I have been looking for a recipe that turns out like hers for a long time now. I have tried a few, all delicious, but not quite the same. A few weeks ago, my Mom was looking through a box of stuff left behind after my grandma passed away a while back and , there it was....... Her recipe for tarte au sucre. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. You might want to have a glass of milk with you when you do eat it, it is extremely sweet!

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups brown sugar
¼ cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish.

CANADIAN SUGAR PIE

Canadian Sugar Pie image

People who travel, eat it in restaurants, then look for the recipe--which is almost as old as Canada. The following is made the way Madam Benoit's grand'mere taught her, though there are all kinds of recipes.

Provided by Olha7397

Categories     Pie

Time 45m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pie pastry, of your choice
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups pure maple syrup
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 pinch nutmeg
1/3 cup butter

Steps:

  • Line a 9-inch pie plate with pastry.
  • Stir soda and vanilla into maple syrup and pour into unbaked pastry.
  • Blend remaining ingredients with your fingertips until mixture is crumbly, then spread over syrup.
  • Place a piece of foil under pan, because the pie often bubbles over.
  • Bake at 350 F.
  • for 30 minutes and let cool---it is best cold.
