- Size Doesn't Matter. While you do need to expand your raft, having a castle won't help you survive any better. You need a raft large enough for the necessities like a grill, purifier, sail, bed, and a few nets.
- Keep Food Cooking. The best way to keep from starving or becoming dehydrated is to keep things cooking. Always replace the cup of water you just drank and the meat you take off of the grill.
- Build A Streamer. The streamer will be able to help you navigate the game's story. Once a streamer is placed, just align your sail with the way it is blowing in the wind to get back on course.
- Make All The Items. By making all the items that appear in your crafting menu, you can be sure to unlock everything you need to create a better raft. By crafting wet bricks and setting them out to dry, you can get a furnace when studied.
- Friends Can Distract The Shark. If you are playing a multiplayer game, then you can easily find ways to distract the shark. If you need to swim out to a sinking raft or dive for clay, then a player can store their inventory and jump into the water first to lead the shark away while you gather materials.
- You Don't Need To Stop At Every Island. As mentioned above, not every island will be well-stocked. While it can be great to stock up on supplies when you begin to run low, many islands are a waste of time.
- Fish And Cook Water. You can go for days at a time without spotting an island in the game. Even when you do find one, there is a chance you won't find very much food or water.
- Don't Build On The Edge. You will quickly learn that the shark will attack and destroy the edges of your raft. There isn't much you can do early on to actually ward him off, and you should always place tools away from the edge.
- Expand Your Raft. You will need to expand your raft quickly to offer yourself protection and make room for needed tools. You will get a game over in no time if you don't add on to your raft.
- Know Your Hook. The very second the game loads, you will be placed on a four-square raft with a single hook in your inventory. The hook is what you will need to use to gather the trash around you.
