Web May 28, 2017 What happens: 1) I'm in game, in fullscreen. 2) I alt-tab. 3) My screen displays a black window the size of my monitor with borders. I don't see the task bar, I can't close this window, I can't minimize it. The task manager won't appear if I hold ctrl+alt+del. I cannot alt+f4 this window. The only solution at this point is a hard reboot.

Web You could try the same thing that works on windows - using windowed mode, and Oblivion Display Tweaks to make it borderless which uses OBSE. That said, alt tab is just as broken on windows without mods, so good luck. Web Once you've tabbed out, try tabbing back to Oblivion again (which results in a blank screen, as you said). But then try tabbing back to the desktop (or any other program) and then back to Oblivion again. This happens to me for Skyrim and this seems to get around it. Web Aug 2, 2017 To install you'll need OBSE, just put the AltTabFix.dll file into your Data/OBSE/Plugins/ folder. If a crash is prevented it'll log a message about it in the console. Also I'm going to try and investigate any other Alt+Tab crashes I come across, watch this space for any updates :)

Web The easy solution is to not alt+tab out of it. There's nothing that's really so vital that you can't take the couple of seconds it'll take to save and exit normally. If you really can't stand not being able to alt+tab out of the game, the only real solution is to use a mod that runs the game in fake full screen windowed mode.

Web May 8, 2020 I found that If you pause the game, using either esc or bringing up your inventory, then shift+tab to bring up the steam overlay, then alt tab out, the game doesn't crash when tabbing back in. When you tab back in, the steam overlay will still be up, and your screen may flicker or pause for half a second, but it shouldn't crash.
