Instant Pot Ribs & Sauerkraut image

The rub and fancy sauerkraut make this one a winner.

4 lbs pork baby back ribs
1/2 tbs kosher salt
2 tbs pepper
2 tbs chili powder
2 tbs smoked paprika
2 tbs brown sugar
1 tbs onion powder
1 tbs garlic powder
29 oz sauerkraut (juice included, 2-14.5 oz cans)
1/2 cup apple juice
1/2 cup BBQ sauce
2 tsp caraway seeds
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 large Yukon gold potatoes

Steps:

  • Mix rub ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Remove membrane from the bone side of the ribs--this stops them from curling when cooked.
  • Sprinkle the rub on all sides of the ribs. Cut ribs into portions about 2-3 ribs long.
  • Slice potatoes (you don't have to bother peeling if you scrub them well) into 1/4-inch slices then place in the the bottom of the Instant pot.
  • Add the undrained sauerkraut, apple juice, BBQ sauce, caraway seeds and the brown sugar on top of the potatoes. Place ribs on top of the layered mixture.
  • Seal and cook on high pressure for 30-40 minutes--the longer time produces ribs where the meat will fall off the bone. Let pressure reduce naturally for 5 minutes, then release the pressure.
  • Remove ribs and stir the sauerkraut mixture.
  • Serve ribs on top of the sauerkraut

2 pounds spareribs, cut into serving size pieces
salt and pepper
1 quart sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
1 1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon brown sugar

Steps:

  • Set the pressure cooker to "saute" mode and add the oil. When hot, add the spareribs and cook, turning frequently, to brown on all sides. Season the ribs with salt and pepper as desired and then top with the sauerkraut. Add the water and sprinkle the brown sugar over everything. Close the cover and set it to pressure cook for 15 minutes. Use the quick release method when the time is up. Serve the spareribs with the sauerkraut.

  • In 4 quart Crock Pot, place ribs, apple and onion. Top with sauerkraut, brown sugar and caraway seed; mix lightly. Pour wine over top.
  • Cover; cook on LOW heat setting 8 to 10 hours.

Our Ribs and Sauerkraut recipe makes an easy family meal that can be made in the oven, crock pot or instant pot.The best country style ribs are both tender and browned on the outside to enhance all of the natural flavors.

3 - 4 pounds shoulder country style ribs
2 teaspoons seasoned salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
32 ounce jar sauerkraut (drained)
4 medium potatoes (cut into 1" cubes)
1 medium red onion (sliced thin)
1 teaspoon Koshor salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil and coat with non-stick cooking spray. Preheat oven to 300°F.
  • Rub seasoning into country style ribs.
  • Add oil to a skillet; once hot sear sides of ribs until brown.
  • Set browned ribs in a row down the center of the prepared baking sheet. Cover tightly with heavy duty foil and bake for 2 hours.
  • Carefully uncover and drain any excess fat off the baking sheet. Turn oven up to 325°F.
  • Arrange drained sauerkraut in between the ribs.
  • If using potatoes toss lightly with oil and season with salt and pepper. Arrange in the space along the long sides of the baking sheet.
  • Nestle slices of red onion in between the potatoes and ribs.
  • Cover again with foil and bake for one additional hour until sauerkraut is warmed through and potatoes are tender. Serve warm and enjoy!

Steps:

3 lbs country-style pork ribs
dry rub seasonings, of your choice (1 TBS brown sugar, 1 tsp salt, paprika, garlic power, onion power, pepper cumin, etc)
3/4 cup beef broth
1/2 cup barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Take your dry rub and massage it into the ribs on all sides.
  • Add beef broth to the bottom of your instant pot.
  • Place ribs in the instant pot.
  • Distribute the BBQ sauce over the top of the meat.
  • Lock the lid on the Instant Pot with the vent closed. Cook on high pressure for 40 minutes, then natural release fo 15-20 minutes.
  • Remove ribs and place on a cookie sheet (use foil for easy cleanup). Cover meat with some more BBQ sauce and broil for 3 minutes.
  • Serve!
