Goat Cheese Crostini with Blood Orange and Black Pepper Marmalade image

Provided by Amelia Saltsman

Categories     Cocktail Party     Vegetarian     Quick & Easy     New Year's Eve     Goat Cheese     Orange     Honey     Bon Appétit

Yield Makes 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 ounces soft fresh goat cheese, room temperature
4 blood oranges, divided
1/4 cup honey
1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
Fresh lemon juice (optional)
18 1/2-inch-thick slices French or raisin baguette, toasted

Steps:

  • Place goat cheese in small bowl. Finely grate 1 teaspoon peel from 1 blood orange; stir peel into cheese.
  • Using vegetable peeler, remove peel (orange part only) in strips from remaining 3 oranges. Cut peel into 1/8- to 1/4-inch pieces and place in medium saucepan. Using small sharp knife, cut white pith from all 4 oranges. Working over another small bowl to catch juices, cut between orange membranes to release segments. Squeeze any remaining juice from membranes into bowl. Discard membranes. Coarsely chop orange segments and add to saucepan along with any juices. Add juices from bowl to saucepan. Stir in honey and 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper. Bring to boil over medium-high heat and cook uncovered until thick and reduced to 1/2 cup, stirring frequently, about 10 minutes. Cool. Season with more ground black pepper to taste and with fresh lemon juice, if desired. DO AHEAD: Cheese and marmalade can be made 1 day ahead; cover separately and chill. Bring to room temperature before assembling crostini. Top toasted baguette slices with goat cheese, then marmalade. Place crostini on platter and serve.

RED RASPBERRY GOAT CHEESE CROSTINI

Red Raspberry Goat Cheese Crostini image

Provided by Valerie Bertinelli

Categories     appetizer

Time 30m

Yield 12 crostini

Number Of Ingredients 9

12 thin slices baguette (sliced on the bias)
4 ounces chevre
1 tablespoon finely chopped chives
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
Zest of 1/2 lemon plus 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
24 red raspberries (about 1 cup)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Arrange the baguette slices on a foil-lined rimmed baking sheet. Bake until slightly dried out, about 6 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, mix together the chevre, chives, parsley, lemon zest, a pinch of salt and a few grinds of pepper in a bowl until well combined. Stir in the lemon juice to loosen the mixture so it will be easier to pipe. Transfer the mixture to a resealable plastic bag and cut off the tip of one corner with scissors.
  • Pipe the goat cheese mixture onto the crostini. Return the crostini to the oven and bake until warm, about 8 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk together the honey and balsamic in a small bowl.
  • Place 2 raspberries on top of each crostini and transfer to a serving platter. Spoon a little of the balsamic mixture on each crostini and serve immediately.

GOAT CHEESE CROSTINI

Goat Cheese Crostini image

Here's an easy finger food idea for a party: goat cheese crostini! Simply make homemade toasts and top with goat cheese, honey and fresh herbs.

Provided by Sonja Overhiser

Categories     Appetizer

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 baguette (homemade or store bought)
4 ounce log soft goat cheese (chevre)
Honey
Fresh mint, basil or thyme, roughly chopped
Fresh ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Slice the baguette into thin slices on the bias (diagonally). Place the slices on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Bake for about 10 minutes, until golden and crispy. Cool to room temperature: they'll crisp up even more as they cool. (If making in advance, store the plain, un-topped crostini up to 5 days in a sealed container at room temperature.)
  • Top each crostini with a smear of soft goat cheese, a drizzle of honey, and roughly chopped fresh herbs. Add fresh ground black pepper and serve immediately.

GOAT CHEESE CROSTINI - GIADA

Goat Cheese Crostini - Giada image

I first made this for a Valentine's dinner with DH. We really loved it. I used a skinny whole-wheat baguette, so the slices were small two- or three-bite ones. and I left out the sliced chives. Yumm. from "Everyday Italian" on Food Network.

Provided by newspapergal

Categories     Cheese

Time 15m

Yield 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 baguette
3 tablespoons olive oil
8 ounces soft fresh goat cheese
4 ounces cream cheese
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh Italian parsley
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh thyme leaves
2 teaspoons finely grated lemon peel
salt
pepper
1/2 cup pitted sicilian green olives or 1/2 cup kalamata olive, finely chopped
2 tablespoons thinly sliced chives

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Arrange the bread slices on 2 heavy large baking sheets. Brush them with olive oil.
  • Bake until the crostini are pale golden and crisp, about 15 minutes.
  • Blend the goat cheese and cream cheese in a food processor until smooth and creamy.
  • Add the parsley, thyme, and lemon peel.
  • Using the on/off button, pulse just to blend.
  • Season with salt and pepper, to taste. (I use kosher salt & fresh-ground pepper).
  • Spread the cheese mixture over the crostini.
  • Sprinkle with the olives, chives, and more pepper. Arrange the toasts on a platter and serve.
  • Do-Ahead Tip: The crostini and cheese mixture can each be prepared 2 days ahead. Store the crostini in an airtight container at room temperature. Cover and refrigerate the cheese mixture. Let the cheese mixture stand at room temperature for 1 hour to soften slightly before spreading over the crostini.

CRUSTY BITES: 10 APPETIZERS SERVED ON TOAST - KITCHN

From thekitchn.com
Estimated Reading Time 3 mins
  • Beets on Crostini with Goat Cheese, from the Kitchn. One of our standbys. You can roast the beets and slice them or use ready-to-go pickled beets from Rick’s Picks (who provided this recipe).
  • Goat Cheese Crostini with Blood Orange and Black Pepper Marmalade, from Bon Appétit. Goat cheese is a natural for this type of appetizer—easy to spread and plays well with a lot of other ingredients.
  • Smoked Salmon and Goat Cheese Toasts, from Simply Recipes. See? We told you goat cheese was popular. This appetizer doesn’t involve much more than opening packages.
  • Cheesy Bread, from Simply Recipes. We couldn’t pass up another one from Elise—a straightforward cheese toast that we’re sure would be the hit of the party.
  • Crostini with Beef and Horseradish Cream, from Fine Cooking. Very common but delicious all the same, especially if you want something a little more substantial for an appetizers-only party.
  • Creamed Mushrooms on Chive Butter Toast, from Smitten Kitchen. Deb says this is like caviar, and we believe her. Silky mushrooms chopped fine and served on buttery toast.
  • Crostini alla Romana, from Giada de Laurentiis. These require a bit more work than others, but the combination of prosciutto, mozzarella, and fried sage butter (mmm) is a crowd pleaser.
  • Pear Pecan Toasts, from Martha Stewart. It’s nice to have something a little sweet, even if it’s before dinner. For these toasts, you mix roquefort with heavy cream to make a smooth spread, then add the pears and nuts.
  • Herb Crostini with Blue Cheese Spread and Caramelized Onion Relish, from My Recipes. We like the idea of brushing the bread with herbs before toasting it—another flavor dimension.
  • Eggplant Caponata, from the Kitchn. We showed this recipe used in a sandwich, but we make it all the time as a dip or appetizer on toast. It keeps well, so it’s easy to make ahead.

QUICK BLOOD ORANGE MARMALADE - THE TOMATO TART
This blood orange marmalade is so much quicker than the traditional recipe and still shines with the sweet, tart, bitter notes that I love in a great marmalade. It is fantastic on raisin toast and mind-blowing on a crostini with goat cheese, rosemary, and black pepper. I even paired it with a piece of cold roast chicken to great success.
