My husband created this chili for a local cooking contest, and it won the People's Choice award. It's loaded with beef, Italian sausage, tomatoes and beans and seasoned with chili powder, cumin and red pepper flakes for zip. -Marjorie O'Dell Bow, Washington

Ingredients

1 pound beef top sirloin steak, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
4 Italian sausage links, casings removed and cut into 3/4-inch slices
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 medium onion, chopped
2 green onions, thinly sliced
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
1 cup boiling water
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
3 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 to 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) stewed tomatoes, cut up
2 cans (15 ounces each) pinto beans, rinsed and drained
Shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

In a large skillet, brown the beef and sausage in 1 tablespoon oil; drain. Transfer meat to a 5-qt. slow cooker. In the same skillet, saute onion and green onions in remaining oil until tender. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Transfer to slow cooker., In a small bowl, dissolve bouillon in water. Stir in the tomato paste, chili powder, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings until blended; add to slow cooker. Stir in tomatoes and beans. Cover and cook on high for 6-8 hours or until the meat is tender. Serve with cheese if desired.

Got this recipe in a 2004 Taste of home magazine. It's really nice on a cold winters day. I know some wouldn't consider it chili because of the beans but it is really good.

2 Tbsp olive oil divided
1 medium onion chopped
2 garlic cloves minced
2 green onions thinly sliced
2 tsp beef bouilon
1 c boiling water
1 6 ounce can tomato paste
3 Tbsp chili powder
2 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
3 cans 141/2 ounce diced tomatos
3 15 ounce cans pinto beans rinsed and drained
shredded cheese optional

Steps:

1. In larg skillet brown the beef and sausage in 1 tablespoon oil. drain
2. Transfer meat to a 5 quart slow cooker.
3. In the same skillet saute the onio, garlic and green onion in remaining oil until tender. Transfer to slow cooker.
4. In small bowl dissolve bouilon in water. Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, brown sugar, worcestshire sauce, and other seasonings till well blended. Add to slow cooker.
5. Stir in tomatos and beans.
6. Cover and cook on high for 6 ot 8 hours or until the meat is tender.
7. Serve iwht cheese if desired.

I always wanted to try a chili with beef chunks. My friend made this and brought me a sample. It was delicious! My husband insisted chili has to have ground beef but once he tried it he was hooked! This has now become a favorite in our house and I hope yours too!

1 or 2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

3 can(s) stewed tomatos, cut up (14 1/2 oz each)
2 can(s) pinto beans, rinsed and drained (15 oz each)
shredded cheddar cheese, optional

Steps:
