I like this when I am sick, the ginger help to settle my stomach. Time does not include time to cook rice.

8 cups water
8 teaspoons ground ginger
5 1/2 tablespoons honey
2/3 cup lime juice
1 teaspoon ground pepper
2 1/2 cups cooked rice
8 thin lime slices

Steps:

  • Put the water into a large pot and bring it to a boil.
  • Add the ground ginger. Cook over medium heat for 3 or 4 minutes.
  • Add the honey, lime juice, pepper, and cooked rice. Stir well. Heat again.
  • Serve hot, garnishing the bowls with the lime slices.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 teaspoon coriander seeds
1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard seeds
3 tablespoons peanut oil
1/2 teaspoon curry powder (preferably Madras)
1 tablespoon minced peeled fresh ginger
2 cups chopped onions
1 1/2 pounds carrots, peeled, thinly sliced into rounds (about 4 cups)
1 1/2 teaspoons finely grated lime peel
5 cups (or more) low-salt chicken broth or vegetable broth
2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
Plain yogurt (for garnish)

Steps:

  • Grind coriander and mustard seeds in spice mill to fine powder. Heat oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat. Add ground seeds and curry powder; stir 1 minute. Add ginger; stir 1 minute. Add next 3 ingredients. Sprinkle with salt and pepper; sauté until onions begin to soften, about 3 minutes. Add 5 cups broth; bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer uncovered until carrots are tender, about 30 minutes. Cool slightly. Working in batches, puree in blender until smooth. Return soup to pot. Add more broth by 1/4 cupfuls if too thick. Stir in lime juice; season with salt and pepper. DO AHEAD: Can be made 1 day ahead. Cool slightly. Chill uncovered until cold, then cover and keep chilled. Rewarm before serving.
  • Ladle soup into bowls. Garnish with yogurt and serve.

1/4 cup dried split pigeon peas, (toor dal), sorted and washed in 3 to 4 changes of water
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon black peppercorn
1 to 3 fresh green chili pepper, such as serrano, stemmed
5 quarter-size slices peeled fresh ginger
4 to 5 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 teaspoon peanut oil or melted ghee
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/4 teaspoon ground asafoetida
1 whole dried red chili pepper, such as chile de arbol
5 to 6 fresh green curry leaves
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro, including soft stems

Steps:

  • 1. Soak the dal 30 minutes in 1/2 cup water. Then, in a blender, grind together the dal and water, cumin seeds, black peppercorns, green chili peppers, and ginger to make as smooth a paste as possible.2. Transfer to a medium saucepan. Mix in the water and salt and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl, cover, and keep warm.3. Heat the oil (or ghee) in a small saucepan over medium-high heat and add the mustard seeds they should splutter upon contact with the hot oil, so cover the pan and lower the heat until the spluttering subsides. Quickly add the asafoetida, red chili pepper, and curry leaves. Stir about 30 seconds and mix well into the soup. Garnish with the cilantro and serve.From "1,000 Indian Recipes." 2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons fresh garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced
1 tablespoon ginger paste (optional)
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
1 large sweet onion, Finely diced
2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into pieces
1/2 cup fresh carrot, sliced
32 ounces chicken broth, organic
6 -8 cups water, depending on preference
1 cup fresh spinach

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large pan.
  • Add fresh garlic, fresh ginger, and onion.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes. Add Ginger paste, cayenne pepper, and salt & pepper. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, stirring often.
  • Add the chicken broth, water, chicken, and carrots.
  • Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes (feel free to cook on low for up to an hour).
  • Add spinach and let cook for 5 minutes just before serving.
  • Note: you can also add mushrooms, to add in more antioxidants. Simply add to the soup at the same time you add the carrots.
