Here's how to make a kick-ass Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato Sandwich.

Provided by RebeccaBlackwell

Categories     Sandwiches

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 pound good quality, thick sliced bacon
8 slices of thick-cut, hearty bread
2 tbsp butter (optional)
2 large, ripe tomatoes, sliced into 1/2-inch thick slices
Salt and pepper
Romaine or Iceberg lettuce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp dill pickle relish
1 tbsp dijon mustard
1 tbsp honey
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp each salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat until warm. Add a few slices of bacon and cook until crisp on both sides. Remove to a paper towel lined plate to drain while you cook the rest of the bacon.
  • Toast the slices of bread, buttering the outside of the slices. Buttering the bread is optional.
  • Mix all the sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  • Assemble the sandwiches: spread one slice of bread with a generous amount of BLT sauce. Lay a couple slices of bacon over the sauce, top with a slice or two of tomato and a few pieces of lettuce. Top with another piece of toasted bread and serve.

THE BEST BLT (BACON, LETTUCE, AND TOMATO) SANDWICH

The Best BLT (Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato) Sandwich image

Use the best tomatoes. Put away the fancy bread. And most importantly: Don't mess with it.

Provided by J. Kenji López-Alt

Categories     Lunch     Quick and Easy     Sandwiches     Sandwich

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 strips thick-cut, naturally cured bacon (see note)
2 slices high-quality sandwich bread, such as shokupan
2 tablespoons (30ml) homemade or store-bought mayonnaise (see note)
1 1/2 cups finely shredded iceberg lettuce (see note)
4 thick slices ripe tomato (see note)
Coarse sea salt, such as fleur de sel or Maldon
Freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Place a griddle or skillet over medium-low heat. Add bacon and place a bacon press, skillet, or masonry trowel on top of it to keep it flat as it cooks. Cook until lightly browned on first side, about 5 minutes, then flip, cover again, and continue cooking until bacon is browned on both sides and fat has rendered, about 3 minutes longer. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate and set aside.
  • Place bread on same skillet or griddle and toast in bacon fat over medium-low heat, swirling occasionally, until evenly browned on first side. Flip and brown second side.
  • Lay toasted bread on a work surface and spread mayonnaise on both top faces. Divide lettuce evenly between both pieces of bread. Layer tomato slices on 1 piece of bread and sprinkle generously with coarse salt and freshly ground pepper.
  • Break bacon slices in half and layer them onto the sandwich in 2 layers of 3 half slices each, alternating the orientation of bacon in each layer for more structural stability. Close sandwich and cut in half diagonally. Serve immediately.

BLT CASSEROLE

BLT Casserole image

Why make a single bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich when you can bake a big dish for a crowd? A glaze of bacon fat across the top adds an extra salty-smoky punch, and a quick trip under the broiler makes the top extra crispy.

Provided by Joe Sevier

Categories     Summer     Casserole/Gratin     Kid-Friendly     Bacon     Lettuce     Tomato     Bread     Bake     Dinner     Small Plates

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

12 ounces crusty Italian or country-style bread, cut into 1" cubes (about 8 cups)
1 pound thick-cut bacon, cut crosswise into 1" pieces
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken stock or broth
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon kosher salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
1 head romaine, washed, dried very well, cut into 1" slices
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped chives (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Spread bread in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake, tossing once, until dry to the touch and slightly toasted, about 10 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  • Meanwhile, cook bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until fat starts to render and bacon browns, about 15 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer bacon to a small bowl, reserving 3 Tbsp. fat.
  • Whisk eggs, stock, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and 2 Tbsp. bacon fat in a large bowl. Add bread and gently toss to combine. Add bacon and tomatoes and stir to combine. Let sit until bread has absorbed most of the liquid, about 15 minutes.
  • Reduce oven temperature to 325°F. Add lettuce to bread mixture and stir to combine. Transfer mixture to a 13x9" baking dish and bake until top is golden brown, about 45 minutes. Brush surface with remaining 1 Tbsp. bacon fat, turn broiler on, and continue baking until tops of bread are glistening and well toasted, 3-5 minutes more. Garnish with chives, if using, and serve immediately.
  • Do Ahead
  • Bread can be dried out 3 days ahead; store in an airtight container at room temperature. Bacon can be cooked 3 days ahead; cover and chill.

How can you beat this?? All the perfect ingredients are between two slices of lightly toasted bread...the juicy height-of-summer red tomatoes, the crunchy green lettuce leaves, the creamy mayo binding it all together, and, best of all, the incomparable meaty, smoky, salty-sweet flavor of the bacon. FRIED GREEN TOMATO BLT (BACON, LETTUCE & TOMATO SANDWICH)

Fried Green Tomato BLT (Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich) image

A terrific Southern twist on the classic BLT. The tang and crunch of the fried green tomato gives a wonderful balance to the bacon, lettuce, and mayo. For a crowd, increase the ingredients and put out the cooked bacon, lettuce leaves, and fried green tomatoes separately... and, let everyone build their own sandwiches. Great football fare!!

Provided by Alan in SW Florida

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 20m

salt and pepper, to taste
3/4 cup yellow cornmeal
3/4 cup canola oil
4 slices thick bacon, crisply cooked
2 -3 lettuce leaves
