Steps:
- Put the blackberries and sugar into a small pan with 100ml/31⁄2fl oz water. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 5 mins until the fruit is soft. Stir in the vanilla, remove and cool a little.
- Tip the contents of the pan into a blender or food processor, and whizz to a purée, then strain through a sieve, rubbing it through with the back of a ladle or spoon. Serve warm or chilled. Keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.

- Select & Buy Blueberries. You can make blueberry puree with fresh or frozen berries; buy fresh in the summer and frozen the rest of the year for high-quality, affordable blueberries.
- Wash the Blueberries. Wash blueberries with a mixture of three parts water and one part white vinegar to remove bacteria. Rinse under cool running water and dry.
- Steam the Blueberries if Underripe or Frozen. If your blueberries are ripe, skip this step and move on to step 4. If you're working with blueberries that are underripe or are frozen, place the fruit in a steamer and cook for three minutes.
- Puree or Mash the Blueberries. Drain blueberries and rinse with cold water for three minutes in a colander to stop the cooking process. Puree in a food processor or blender until smooth.
- Serve Blueberry Puree. If blueberries are very sweet, serve the puree plain. To introduce your baby to new textures and flavors, or to make the most of puree from more tart blueberries, mix it with oatmeal, full-fat yogurt, or sweeter fruit puree.
- Freeze Leftover Blueberry Puree. If you steamed the blueberries, let the puree cool and then refrigerate leftovers in BPA-free containers for up to 3 days.
