½ cup butter
2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup white sugar
1 cup sifted cake flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup finely chopped apples
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8-inch square cake pan.
  • Melt butter and chocolate in the top of a double boiler over simmering water, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching.
  • Beat eggs in a bowl until light and lemon-colored; gradually beat in sugar. Stir chocolate mixture into egg mixture and beat rapidly for 1 minute.
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl; add to chocolate mixture and stir to combine. Stir walnuts, apples, and vanilla extract into chocolate mixture until batter is combined. Spoon batter into prepared cake pan.
  • Bake brownies in the preheated oven until set, about 40 minutes.

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup canola oil
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped black walnuts

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, beat sugar and oil until blended. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, cocoa and salt; gradually add to sugar mixture and mix well. Stir in walnuts. , Pour into a greased 8-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.

1/4 cup shortening
3 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, cream shortening and cocoa; beat in egg, sugar and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture. Beat on low speed until thoroughly combined. Stir in walnuts. , Pour into a greased 8x4-in. loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

½ cup butter, melted
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
3 medium apples - peeled, cored and thinly sliced
½ cup chopped walnuts
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the melted butter, sugar, and egg until fluffy. Fold in the apples and walnuts. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Stir the flour mixture into the wet mixture until just blended. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

1 cup hershey semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup hersheys semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons milk
black walnut ice cream (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Grease and flour a 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 x 1 inch jelly roll pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, cocoa, sugar, eggs and vanilla; blend well.
  • Stir together flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Stir into cocoa mixture until smooth.
  • Add black walnuts and mini kisses.
  • Spread evenly in the prepared pan and bake 25 minutes on middle oven rack.
  • Cool before cutting.
  • Optional: individually warm cut brownies slightly before serving.
  • Makes 3 to 5 dozen.
  • Topping: Melt mini kisses over low heat, stirring continually.
  • Stir in milk.
  • Drizzle over warm brownies just before serving.
  • If desired, top with black walnut ice cream.

Grandmama has passed now and I don't get back to France as often as I wish now, so in tribute to her " Pour que tu saches. 2 cups brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup butter, softened
4 ounces baking chocolate, softened in microwave
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted with
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup black walnut, lightly toasted and chopped

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Lightly grease a loaf pan.

1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon black walnut extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 cups flour
2 cups unpeeled chopped jonathan apples
1 cup coarsely chopped black walnut

Steps:

  • Spray or butter a 9x13x2" pan.
