FLANK STEAK MARINADE

Flank Steak Marinade image

This is a recipe that I found on the Radiant Recovery website. A great sugar free marinade for Flank Steak. The original recipe called for 1 tablespoon of dried mustard - I cut it down to 1 teaspoon and also left out the black pepper (I'm allergic to it) and the salt because of the salt content of the tamari sauce. Cooking time is marinating time.

Provided by LARavenscroft

Categories     Easy

Time 4h5m

Yield 1 3/4 cups

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 cup tamari
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vinegar (whatever you have on hand, I used rice wine vinegar)
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 garlic clove, minced

Steps:

  • Blend 30 seconds and pour over meat.
  • Refrigerate at least 4 hours or over night.

THE ULTIMATE FLANK STEAK - THE ORIGINAL RECIPE

The Ultimate Flank Steak - the Original Recipe image

SOURCE SHADOWS -- This is the way I posted this recipe originally to About.com. I know there is a post by another member, but this is the original one. Prep Time includes marination time

Provided by Chef Shadows

Categories     Steak

Time 6h8m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2-2 lbs flank steaks
1/4 cup madeira wine
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon pepper
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon sea salt or 1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
1/8 cup soy sauce or 1/8 cup Worcestershire sauce
3 garlic cloves, crushed
1/2 teaspoon marjoram
1 tablespoon butter

Steps:

  • This steak is best served with the center red/pink, it is at it's most tender state at that point.
  • Place steak in sealable plastic bag.
  • Add remaining ingredients, except butter, and place in refrigerator for 6 to 12 hours to marinate.
  • Turn bag over at least four times during marination.
  • Grill over hot hardwood coals, basting frequently with marinade, for about 8-10 minutes a side.
  • Check for doneness.
  • When done cut steak on diagonal across the grain.
  • Serve with remaining marinade that has been heated to a boil with butter added.
  • The flavors can be intensified by using your favorite smoking chips on the cooking coals (I use sassafras, hickory, or apple).
  • Leftovers make excellent sandwiches when topped with bacon, tomato and melted cheese (Swiss, Cheddar, Smoked Gouda or Blue) and remaining marinade drizzled on top.
  • I store the leftovers in the marinade to keep the steak moist and flavorful.

MARINATED FLANK STEAK

Marinated Flank Steak image

This marinated flank steak recipe will have everyone singing your praises, begging for the recipe and coming back for seconds and thirds. The flank steak marinade creates melt-in-your-mouth tender, juicy steak with complex savory, tangy, sweet and spicy notes. The marinade is made with soy sauce, balsamic, lemon juice, brown sugar and seasonings that infuse the steak with tons of flavor. And the best part of grilled flank steak? It's SO easy with zero clean up! Marinate then grill - that's it! (I've also included oven and stove top instructions.) Flank steak is also extremely versatile and can be served up with your favorite sides like mashed potatoes and fruit salad or in salads, wraps, pasta, sandwiches and more.

1/2 tsp EACH dried oregano, dried rosemary, ground coriander

STEAK TACOS

Steak Tacos image

Easy flank steak tacos with citrus marinade. This easy recipe for the grill, stovetop, or oven makes the BEST perfectly tender steak tacos.

Provided by Erin Clarke / Well Plated

Categories     Main Course

Time 1h25m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 pound flank steak (trimmed of excess fat)
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic (minced (about 2 teaspoons))
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 tablespoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (plus additional for grilling the steak)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper (plus additional for grilling the steak)
Canola oil (for coating the grill)
8 7-inch corn or flour tortillas
Shredded Monterey jack (feta, or queso fresco cheese)
Other toppings: chopped fresh cilantro (diced red onion, sliced or diced tomatoes)

Steps:

  • Place the flank steak in a baking dish. In a medium mixing bowl or large measuring cup, stir together the olive oil, garlic, orange juice, lime juice, cumin, salt, and pepper. Pour over the steak. Cover tightly with plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 8 hours (do not marinate for more than 8 hours or the steak will break down and soften too much).
  • When ready to grill, remove the steak from the refrigerator and let stand at room temperature while you prepare any toppings and preheat the grill.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill or indoor grill pan over medium-high heat (alternatively, you can cook the steak under your broiler-place your oven rack in the upper third, usually the second closest rack to the top). Brush the grill grates with oil. Remove the steak from the marinade, shaking off any excess. Grill (or broil) the steak for about 3-4 minutes per side, flipping once, until medium-rare (The steak should read 135 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer.)
  • Remove the steak to a cutting board and cover with foil. Let rest for 5 minutes (this allows the juices to sink into the meat), then cut the steak into thin, 1/4-inch slices, slicing it across the grain.
  • Next, warm the tortillas. Place them in a dry skillet heated over medium-high or heat them on the grill for about 30 seconds per side, until warmed through.
  • To serve, fill the tortillas with a few slices of beef. Sprinkle with cheese and any desired toppings. Enjoy immediately.

THE ULTIMATE ASIAN FLANK STEAK MARINADE

The Ultimate Asian Flank Steak Marinade image

It's hard to beat the classic combination of soy sauce and honey when it comes to steak marinades. But toss in garlic, ginger, scallions and a splash of balsamic vinegar (my secret ingredient), and you've just whisked together the best-ever bath for your favorite cuts of beef. This marinade was legendary in my house growing up. And I have vivid memories of my mom prepping the marinade a day in advance so that the flank steak could go for an overnight soak before being grilled over an open flame. The result was a perfectly seared steak with a caramelized crust (shout-out to the honey) and a tender center that offerred hints of the sweet and tangy flavors from the Asian-inspired blend. A quick tip for marinades: Make the most of sealable plastic bags to minimize cleanup and provide easy opportunities to swish the ingredients around the food item so it gets an even coating on all sides. • Sweet Potato Fries. Sweet potato fries are a great way to serve potatoes as a side dish with flank steak. Peel and cut sweet potatoes into thin strips, toss them with oil and spices like chili powder, cumin powder, and garlic powder, put them on baking sheets, and bake them for about 30 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Corn on the Cob. You can also serve corn as a side dish for flank steak, either grilled or boiled. To boil corn, bring water to a boil in a pot with salt added to it if desired.
  • Grilled Brussels Sprouts. Brussels sprouts are another vegetable you can add to your flank steak plate. You don’t even need to cook them, so they’re straightforward to make and serve as a side dish for flank steak.
  • Steamed Spinach with Lemon and Butter. Steamed spinach flavored with lemon and butter is another simple but tasty way to serve vegetables as a side dish for flank steak.
