EASY, THICK TERIYAKI SAUCE (NO PINEAPPLE)

Easy, Thick Teriyaki Sauce (No Pineapple) image

Nice and thick, super easy and doesn't include pineapple. I love teriyaki chicken and I haven't been able to find a recipe that tastes like my favorite Japenese restaraunt's sauce. I'm not a huge fan of vinegar but it seems to be the secret ingredient-if the sauce is too sweet for your taste just add a little more vinegar and tamari. A little grated ginger gives it a really fresh taste if you have it available. You'll probably want to double the recipe if you like lots of sauce=)

  • Combine ingredients in a large saucepan over high heat. The larger the pan, the faster it will reduce. For me it takes about 10 minutes, but it depends on the size of the pan you use.
  • Combine 3 to 4tbsp of Marinade per 1lb/500g of meat and marinate for at least 20 minutes, preferably overnight. However, if marinating fish, do not marinate for more than a few hours at most - 20 minutes is enough (otherwise the flavour will overpower the fish).
