SUPER THICK HOT CHOCOLATE

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 cups milk
1 cup evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
Pinch ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, combine the milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla and warm up over a low heat.
  • Combine the cocoa powder, sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon in another bowl. Whisk the cocoa mixture into the warm milk mixture. Whisk the mixture frequently to prevent it from scorching.
  • Remove the mixture from the heat just after it has come to a boil. The mixture should be suuuuuper rich and thick!
  • Cook's Note: For grown-up kids: A shot of brandy, kahlua, or peppermint schnapps is really yummy!

I am always on the look out for my idea of the perfect hot chocolate, and can never find it. So, I took it upon myself to come up with this.

2 cups milk
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 tablespoon cornflour
1/4 cup sugar

Steps:

  • combine cocoa, cornflour and sugar, and mix until combined.
  • Add a small bit of milk to for a runny paste, add rest of milk.
  • Stir over hear until it boils.
  • divide between 4 mugs and top up with cold milk.
  • Stir in some liquor of your choice for an adult version!

Italian-style hot chocolate. Thick, dark and seductive. Add a little cayenne pepper and cinnamon, top with whipped cream if you wish! Recipe makes FOUR half cup servings.

2 cups half-and-half, plus
2 tablespoons half-and-half (divided)
3 teaspoons arrowroot
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped (as close to 70 percent cacao as possible)
1/4 teaspoon grated orange zest

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of the half-and-half with the arrowroot, whisking until smooth.
  • Place the remaining 1/2 cup of half-and-half in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer. When the half-and-half begins to bubble around the edges, whisk in the sugar. Whisk in the arrowroot mixture until the half-and-half thickens slightly, usually less than a minute.
  • Remove from the heat and quickly whisk in the chocolate until smooth.
  • Pour into cups, top both with a pinch of orange zest, and serve immediately.

Indulge in a homemade hot chocolate. Perfect as the cold nights draw in, you can add a pinch of chilli, cinnamon or a slug of rum if you like

250ml milk of your choice
1 tbsp cocoa
1-2 tbsp soft light brown sugar
25g dark or plain chocolate, finely chopped, plus a grating to serve
1 tbsp whipped cream or squirty cream

Steps:

  • Heat the milk, cocoa, sugar and chocolate in a small pan over a medium heat until steaming and the chocolate has melted. Whisk to dissolve the cocoa.
  • Pour into a mug, then add the cream to float on top. Grate over a little more chocolate to serve.

  • While the milk is heating, sift the sugar and cocoa powder over a small bowl (I like to use a mesh tea strainer for this). Stir in the salt.
  • Add the cocoa mixture and the chocolate to the milk and whisk well to combine. Simmer the hot chocolate for about 1 minute, until the chocolate is melted. Pour the hot chocolate through a fine strainer to remove any lumps.
  • Whip the heavy cream with a whisk or immersion blender until it forms soft peaks. Divide the hot chocolate into cups and spoon some of the cream on top. Sprinkle with cocoa, if you like.
