WHITE QUESO DIP RECIPE

This easy Homemade White Queso Dip Recipe is delicious and creamy! Made with American cheese you find at your deli, green chilies and more.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 teaspoons butter
1/4 cup finely chopped white onions
1 pound White American cheese
4 ounces green chilies (1 can - do not drain)
4 ounces heavy cream

Steps:

  • Melt two teaspoons of butter in medium-sized frying pan. Add onions, cook until they become translucent.
  • Place the cheese and heavy cream together in a medium-sized pan and heat over low-medium heat until the cheese melts.
  • After the cheese has melted, add green chilis and onions and stir well.

A smooth and creamy queso is quintessential game-day food, so we took the classic recipe and kicked-it up a notch with jack and Cheddar cheeses. Enjoy it with tortilla chips or any of your favorite dippers for serving.

10 ounces processed block cheese, diced, such as Velveeta (see Cook's Note)
4 ounces Monterey jack cheese, coarsely shredded
2 ounces sharp Cheddar, coarsely shredded
One 10-ounce can diced tomatoes and green chiles, such as RoTel Original (see Cook's Note)
Tortilla chips, for serving

Steps:

  • Add the processed cheese, Monterey Jack, Cheddar and canned tomatoes (along with the juice) to a medium saucepan or 10-inch cast-iron skillet (see Cook's Note) and turn the heat to medium. Cook, stirring frequently with a rubber spatula, until all the cheese has melted and the queso is smooth, about 5 minutes. Serve immediately with tortilla chips.
  • To make the queso spicy, use hot diced tomatoes and green chiles, such as RoTel Hot, instead of the Original.
  • Processed block cheese is crucial due to its meltability and what it adds to the queso's texture. Do not try to substitute other cheeses.

1 cup white american cheese
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
1 poblano, roasted, deseeded, and chopped
1 cup canned fire-roasted tomatoes, drained
1 cup heavy cream
1/2-3/4 cup jalapeño juice (from jar)
Salt (to taste)
Black Pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Combine cheeses, poblano, fire-roasted tomatoes, and heavy cream in your slow cooker. You could also put it in a large pot on the stove top.
  • Mix together; cook on high for 1.5 hours or low for 2-3 hours. Mix partway through to help get better melted cheese and combination of all the ingredients.
  • If using the stove, cook on low for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
  • After cooked, add jalapeno juice, salt, and pepper to taste. Start with a little bit less jalapeno juice and add more to adjust the flavor to your liking.

  • Before you get started, be sure that all of your ingredients are prepared and ready to go near the stove. The optional jalapeño adds some flavor and some heat. If using a fresh pepper, remove the seeds and ribs, then finely chop. For jarred jalapeños, just finely chop them.
  • Melt the butter in a small-to-medium Dutch oven or large, deep skillet. Add the onion, jalapeño (if using), and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt. Cook, while stirring often, until the onions are tender and translucent, about 4 to 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant while stirring, about 30 seconds.
  • Add the milk and cream cheese to the pot. Stir until the cream cheese has melted into the mixture (it should be mostly smooth), about 5 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low and start adding the cheese in medium handfuls, stirring after each one. Once the cheese has melted completely into the mixture, add the next handful, and so on until you have added all of the cheese.
