This is so easy to do and it makes company quality ribs. I make the sauce the night before and just add it in the morning before work. You can also use chicken thighs or wings for this.

Steps:

  • Mix sugar and flour into saucepan.
  • Add water, stir.
  • Add next 5 ingredients.
  • Heat and stir until it boils and thickens.
  • Pour over ribs in crock pot.
  • Cook on low 8-10 hours or high 4-5 hours.

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3/4 cup Food Network Kitchen™ Inspirations Thai Style Sweet & Spicy Chili Cooking Sauce
Chopped cilantro, chopped roasted and salted peanuts and lime wedges, for serving

Steps:

  • Sprinkle the ribs all over with salt and pepper. Brush the ribs with 1/2 cup of the Thai Style Sweet & Spicy Chili Cooking Sauce. Transfer to a 6- to 8-quart slow cooker insert. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
  • Preheat the broiler and line a baking sheet with foil.
  • Place each rib rack half, bone-side down, on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with the remaining cooking sauce. Broil until the glaze is bubbling and browned, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Slice the ribs between the bones. Transfer to a platter and sprinkle with cilantro and peanuts. Squeeze lime juice over the ribs.

1/2 cup water
2 bunches scallions, thinly sliced diagonally
1 garlic clove, minced
1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and minced
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup rice vinegar

1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup chili-garlic sauce
1/4 cup hoisin sauce (or plum sauce)
2 limes, juice of

Steps:

  • Trim excess fat off ribs.
  • In a heavy skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ribs on all sides in batches. Transfer browned ribs to an oval slow cooker (for a better fit, but round may be used).
  • Deglaze the skillet with 1/2 cup water and pour the resulting liquid over the ribs.
  • In a medium bowl combine half of the scallions and all remaining ingredients except the sesame seeds. Stir until the sugar is dissolved, pour over the ribs.
  • Cook on the low setting 6 hours or until the meat is tender (some will fall from the bone).
  • Toast the sesame seeds in a small skillet until lightly browned. Transfer to a bowl to cool and set aside.
  • Serve the ribs with some of the sauce, sprinkle with the sesame seeds and remaining scallions.

Steps:

  • Mix the dry rub ingredients in small bowl, and the barbecue sauce ingredients in a small bowl, set aside.
  • Put the ribs on a large cutting board, flip them over so the curved side is up. Remove and discard the silver skin, I do this but getting my fingers under middle edge on one side and pulling up, most of the time I can get it off in one piece. Cut the ribs into 4 even portions. I do this because it fits nicely in the slow cooker.
  • Using your hands rub the dry rub on the ribs on both sides. Place the rib pieces into the slow cooker that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Take half of the barbecue sauce and spread over the ribs (being careful not to contaminate the rest of the barbecue sauce with the raw meat, that sauce will be used later when the ribs are cooked.) Add the 1/2 cup water around the ribs.
  • Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours without opening the lid during the cooking time.
  • Brush the remaining barbecue sauce on the ribs.
  • Enjoy!

1/2 c chili sauce (heinz or other brand)
1/3 c ketchup

  • 1. Spray interior of crockpot with vegetable spray.
  • 2. Combine flour, salt, and pepper in a plastic gallon bag. Add ribs, a few at a time, and shake to coat.
  • 3. Brown meat in a small amount of oil or butter in batches in a skillet. Remove and transfer to slow cooker. Reserve drippings.
  • 4. Combine remaining ingredients in the skillet. Stir ingredients with drippings until mixture comes to a boil. Pour over ribs.

  • Combine the flour, brown sugar, chile powder, garlic, thyme, 2 teaspoons salt and a few grinds of pepper in a small bowl. Sprinkle all over the short ribs and rub into the meat. Arrange the ribs in a single layer in a 6-quart slow cooker. Sprinkle any of the remaining flour mixture on top.
  • Whisk the apple butter, mustard, ketchup and cider in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave until very hot, then transfer to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on high, 4 hours.
  • Using tongs, turn the ribs in the sauce to coat, then remove to a bowl. Skim off the fat from the sauce (there will be quite a bit), then return the ribs to the sauce and add the carrots and scallions. Cover and cook on high, 2 more hours. Serve with cornbread.
