These Crockpot Root Beer Chicken Wings come out crispy, spicy, sweet, and tangy - everything a great wing should be, in one little package.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 lb chicken wing drummettes
1 cup root beer
1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Spray crockpot with cooking spray. Place chicken in slow cooker.
  • In medium bowl, stir root beer, barbecue sauce, brown sugar and pepper flakes until well blended. Reserve 1 cup sauce. Pour remaining sauce over chicken. Stir to coat drummettes.
  • Cover; cook on Low 4 hours.
  • Once cooking is done. Set your oven to broil. Line a baking sheet with foil. Place chicken on pan (discard liquid in the crockpot). Brush with reserved 1 cup sauce. Broil tops of chicken until browned. Turn chicken and brush with sauce and boil that side until browned.

2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons pepper
1 cup BBQ sauce
17 fl oz root beer
BBQ sauce, to taste
¼ cup brown sugar, to taste

Steps:

  • Season chicken wings with salt and pepper.
  • Spray your slow cooker pot with cooking spray, add chicken wings, bbq sauce and root beer. Cover, cook on low for 4 hours.
  • Remove wings from slow cooker, place on parchment lined tray. Brush more bbq sauce onto wings, sprinkle on some brown sugar. Place under broiler for 8 -10 minutes.
  • Enjoy!

The key to these super flavorful, tender wings is cooking them low and slow in a sticky-sweet Chinese-style BBQ sauce. A quick trip under the broiler gives them a crispy char -- just like at your favorite wing joint.

3 pounds chicken wings, split
Kosher salt
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1/4 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
2 scallions, thinly sliced on a bias, for serving

Steps:

  • Put the chicken wings in a 6-quart slow cooker and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon salt. Mix together the honey, hoisin, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger and five-spice powder in a small bowl or measuring cup. Pour the sauce over the wings and toss to mix. Cover and cook on high, stirring occasionally, until the wings are cooked through and tender and the sauce is slightly thickened, about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the broiler to high. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Transfer the wings to the baking sheet using tongs or a slotted spoon. Drizzle about 1/2 cup of the sauce over the wings; discard any remaining sauce. Broil, flipping the wing halfway through, until golden, about 6 minutes. Sprinkle with the scallions and serve warm.

  • Spray 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Place chicken in slow cooker.

  • Cover; cook on Low heat setting 3 to 4 hours.

4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (6 ounces each)
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 cup root beer
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
4 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest

Steps:

  • Flatten chicken breasts slightly. In a large skillet, cook chicken in oil for 4-6 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 170°. Remove and keep warm., Stir the root beer, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard and lemon zest into the skillet. Bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 6-8 minutes or until thickened. Return chicken to skillet; heat through.

1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle root beer
1 (18 ounce) bottle barbeque sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray's®), or more to taste
8 (2 ounce) hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • Place chicken inside a slow cooker and pour the root beer over the meat. Cook on Low until meat easily shreds, 6 to 8 hours.
  • Drain off the cooking liquid and use meat claws, two forks, or a large spoon to break the meat apart. Stir in barbeque sauce. Keep warm in the slow cooker until ready to serve.
  • Place meat onto hamburger buns and serve drizzled with more barbeque sauce if desired.
