Quick Vanilla Buttercream Frosting image

Whip up this fan-favorite Quick Vanilla Buttercream Frosting recipe. It's fluffy, light and the perfect professional finish to any cake or cookie.

3 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 2 tablespoons whipping cream

Steps:

  • In a standing mixer fitted with a whisk, mix together sugar and butter. Mix on low speed until well blended and then increase speed to medium and beat for another 3 minutes.
  • Add vanilla and cream and continue to beat on medium speed for 1 minute more, adding more cream if needed for spreading consistency.

Another one of my great Aunt's old recipes, but I have to say this is the best recipe I've found for this... simple and easy.

1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
x confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons rum
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Beat butter in a medium-size bowl with electric mixer, until soft.
  • Beat in 10x sugar alternately with rum and milk, until smooth and spreadable.
  • Frost cake; between cake layers put small amount of frosting.
  • Frost sides and top of cake.
  • Garnish with chopped nuts, banana slices, walnut halves, or maraschino cherries.

1/4 cup butter, melted
3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/4 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 teaspoons rum extract
1 pinch ground allspice
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 pinch ground cloves

Steps:

  • Whisk butter in a large bowl until fluffy. Gradually add 1 cup of the sifted confectioners' sugar, beating well. Slowly beat in the salt and cream. Gradually beat in the remaining 2 1/2 cups of confectioners' sugar. Continue to beat until the frosting begins to thicken; whisk in the vanilla and rum extracts, allspice, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • Allow to sit for 15 minutes before using.

  • Stir in powdered sugar 1/2 cup at time blending until smooth.
  • Add nutmeg.
  • Let cool about 15 minutes to thicken before icing cookies, cakes, etc.
