CAMPFIRE BANANA SPLITS

Campfire Banana Splits image

This was a recipe from my old Girl Scouting days. A very easy recipe for all ages that needs little adult supervision. Great for sleep-overs and backyard camping trips.

Provided by Toni Boncella Blyth

Categories     Desserts     Fruit Dessert Recipes     Banana Dessert Recipes

Time 18m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 3

6 large bananas, unpeeled, stems removed
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 (10.5 ounce) package miniature marshmallows

Steps:

  • Preheat the grill for high heat.
  • Spray 4 sheets of aluminum foil, large enough to wrap bananas, with cooking spray.
  • Slice the peel of the banana from stem to bottom, while slicing the banana inside lengthwise. The bananas can be cut into slices instead if you like, (while still in the peel) for easier handling later.
  • Carefully open the banana just wide enough to place the chocolate chips and marshmallows inside the peel with the banana. Stuff with as much of the chocolate chips and marshmallows as desired.
  • Wrap the bananas with the aluminum foil and place on the grill or directly in the coals of a fire. Leave in long enough to melt the chips and the marshmallows, about 5 minutes. Unwrap bananas, open the peels wide, and eat with a spoon.

TRADITIONAL BANANA SPLIT

Traditional Banana Split image

There is some debate in our ice cream parlor what the "traditional" split consists of. I did some research before we opened and it seems that this is the most consistently "traditional" split served, even though some have marshmallow, peanuts, crushed cherries and more. I prefer hot fudge over the chocolate syrup, personally :P

Time 5m

Yield 1-2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 cup scoop vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup scoop chocolate ice cream
1/2 cup scoop strawberry ice cream
1 large ripe banana
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup (or Hot Fudge)
2 tablespoons strawberry ice cream topping (or fresh strawberries)
2 tablespoons crushed pineapple
2 tablespoons wet walnut ice cream topping
whipped cream
cherries

Steps:

  • Line up ice cream scoops next to each other in an oval deep dish or a banana boat.
  • Cut the ends of the banana off (about 1/4 inch) while still in the peel.
  • Slice in half longways.
  • Pop each half of the banana out of the peel onto each side of the ice cream row, pressing down and in a little so it'll stay put.
  • Top the vanilla ice cream with the pineapple, the chocolate with the chocolate syrup and the strawberry with the strawberry sauce.
  • Spoon the wet walnuts over all three scoops of ice cream.
  • Top each scoop with some whipped cream and a cherry for each.
  • Enjoy!

4 WAYS TO MAKE A BANANA SPLIT - WIKIHOW

4 Ways to Make a Banana Split - wikiHow image

A banana split is a delicious treat great for all occasions. While there are many different variations, the traditional one uses bananas, three different flavors of ice cream, and lots of different toppings. If you want to try something...

Provided by wikiHow

Categories     Bananas

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 banana, peeled and split lengthwise
1 scoop each vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream
1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) strawberry ice cream topping/syrup
1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) pineapple ice cream topping/syrup
1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) chocolate syrup
Whipped cream, for garnish
1 tablespoon (7.5 grams) chopped peanuts
1 to 3 maraschino cherries with stems

Steps:

  • Place the banana into a long, narrow dish. If you have not already, peel the banana, then slice it in half lengthwise. Place the banana into a long, narrow dish, with the curved ends pointing up. You can buy dishes made specifically for banana splits.
  • Place three scoops of ice cream down the middle, between the banana halves. One scoop each of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream is the most traditional. Another popular choice is all vanilla ice cream.
  • Drizzle the sauces and toppings on top of the ice cream. If you want to get really traditional, pour the chocolate sauce on top of the chocolate ice cream, the strawberry sauce on top of strawberry, and the pineapple on top of the vanilla. Alternatively, you can pour chocolate sauce over each scoop of ice cream. If you don't have any strawberry ice cream topping or syrup, you can use 2 tablespoons (25 grams) of diced strawberries instead. If you don't have any pineapple ice cream topping or syrup, you can use 2 tablespoons (30 grams) of pineapple chunks instead. If you don't like pineapple, try 1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) of caramel syrup instead.
  • Add a dollop of whipped cream. You can add a swirl of whipping cream over each ice cream scoop, of you can place it down the length of the banana split. The store-bought kind that comes in a can with a nozzle will be the easiest to use. You can also make your own, and pipe it on using a piping bag and a large, star-shaped tip.
  • Sprinkle some chopped peanuts on top. If you don't have peanuts or if you simply don't like them, you can use chopped walnuts instead. Another tasty and more colorful option would be to use sprinkles instead.
  • Top it off with some maraschino cherries. Place a single cherry in the middle of your banana split. If you really like maraschino cherries, place one on top of each whipped cream dollop.
