Steps:
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Butter or lightly grease a large baking sheet and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, milk and 2 tablespoons melted butter until a ball forms. Roll dough into a thin rectangle on a lightly floured surface, about 1/4-inch thick. Cut dough lenghthwise into 1-inch strips.
- Using a fork, prick each little smokie twice. Place a little smokie on the end of a strip of dough and roll twice to blanket it. Cut dough and press gently to seal the loose end. Place sealed side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining little smokies.
- Brush each pig with some of the egg wash and sprinkle with a pinch of kosher salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until dough starts to turn golden brown. Serve with ketchup and mustard.
PIGS IN A BLANKET (BLANKIES FROM SCRATCH)
I have been using this recipe for blanketed piggies since I first came across it almost 15 years ago from either my sister or my grade 9 home economics class. I'm so glad I have it since it's so hard to find a blanket recipe from scratch! I can cover a typical Canadian package of 12 hot dogs with this recipe.

Steps:
- Sift the dry ingredients in a bowl.
- Mix in the butter/margarine and milk.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to desired thickness and as wide as the hot dogs to be wrapped are.
- Wrap the individual hot dogs or sausages in their own blanket.
- Bake at 425°F for about 10 minutes or until slightly brown.
- *If you get to the end of the dough, yet still have more hot dogs left without blankets, it's easy just to roll the wrapped hot dogs between your hand and your work surface to make their blanket thinner, that way you can cut off the excess dough off from either side of the hot dog and combine the ends and roll out another strip of blanket. Maybe you'd like to consider adding a bit of cheese inside the blanket for added flavor.

Yield 36 pigs and 1 1/4 cups sauce
Number Of Ingredients 9
Steps:
- For the sauce: Use cooking spray to coat the inside of an 8-inch springform pan. Spray the outside of a 3 1/2- to 3 3/4-inch-diameter ramekin and place it in the center of the springform pan. Set aside.
- Whisk together the ketchup, honey, curry powder and plenty of black pepper in a small saucepot. Bring to a simmer, then remove from the heat; set aside.
- For the rolls: Lightly dust your work surface and a rolling pin with flour. Unroll the puff pastry and roll out to a 14-by-9-inch rectangle. Dust the top all over with the curry powder. Using one frank as a guide, cut the pastry into strips slightly smaller than the franks, about 1 1/4-by-2 1/4 inches. Roll each frank in a piece of pastry and pinch the seam to close it.
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
- Starting with the outer circle and allowing some space between, place each pig in a blanket vertically in the prepared springform pan in two concentric circles. Chill for 30 minutes. Bake until the tops are golden, about 35 minutes, then cover loosely with foil and bake until the inner puff pastry is baked through, about 25 minutes more. Pour the sauce in the ramekin and serve.

Steps:
- Cut hot dogs lengthwise 3/4 of the way through. Insert a piece of cheese or 1/2 teaspoon caramelized onions into each hot dog, if using; set aside. If not using cheese or onions, poke hot dogs several times with the tip of a knife.
- On a lightly floured work surface, working with one sheet of puff pastry at a time, roll into a 14-by-11-inch rectangle. Cut lengthwise into seven 1 1/2-inch wide strips. Cut each strip crosswise into 4 rectangles, each about 3 1/2 inches long.
- In a small bowl, beat together egg and 1 tablespoon water; set aside. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or a nonstick baking mat; set aside. Place a hot dog on the narrow end of one piece of pastry. Roll to enclose, brushing with some of the beaten egg to adhere; transfer to prepared baking sheet. Repeat process with remaining hot dogs and pastry. Brush the tops of puff pastry with egg and sprinkle with seeds, if using. Transfer to refrigerator and let chill for 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Transfer baking sheets to oven and bake until puffed and golden, about 20 minutes. Let cool briefly before serving with mustard and ketchup.

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 450˚F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and set it aside.
- Lay 1 sheet of phyllo on a work surface (cover the remaining phyllo with a slightly damp kitchen towel to keep it from drying out). Spray the phyllo sheet generously with cooking spray. Top with another sheet of phyllo. Spray the second sheet of phyllo with cooking spray. Cut the phyllo stack lengthwise into 3 strips (each strip should measure about 3x9 inches). Place 1 piece of hot dog at the end of each strip. Fold the sides of the phyllo in to overlap the edges of the hot dog pieces. Roll the hot dogs up tightly to encase them in phyllo. Place the rolled hot dogs, seam side down, on the prepared baking sheet.
- Repeat the process with the remaining hot dogs and phyllo. When all of the hot-dog packages have been assembled, spray them lightly with cooking spray, and bake until they are golden brown and crispy, about 16 minutes.
- Meanwhile, bring the milk to a boil in a small nonstick saucepan over high heat. Add the cheese and whisk until it melts. Continue whisking until the sauce is smooth. Whisk in the ketchup and mustard.
- Serve the hot dogs with the warm sauce for dipping.
PIGS IN A BLANKET WITH CURRIED "KETCHUP"
I made these for an appetizer because I was going to have kids at our grown-up dinner party. What I didn't know is how much adults and kids alike would love them and my husband requested them for our next football game party, twice. The ketchup is what makes these fabulous. - Sift the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl, then rub the butter pieces into the dry ingredients until mixture is crumbly and the lumps are still about the size of peas. You don't want to overwork this (which I'm often tempted to do!), as these small lumps of butter are what will create any semblance of flakiness in the dough.
- Make a well in the dry ingredients and add the buttermilk. Stir well, then cover with a tea towel and place in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to chill slightly.
- When the dough is chilled, scrape it from the bowl, sprinkle with flour, then turn out onto a well-floured surface.

- Baked Beans. Baked beans are my go-to dish when I know I’m serving a lot of guests, and I want to make them full and happy. This dish is incredibly hearty but also sweet, savory, and delicious.
- Mac & Cheese. You can never go wrong with mac and cheese. This classic pasta dish easily complements a variety of flavors. But pairs especially well with the smoky and savory sausage inside the soft crescent roll.
- Deviled Eggs. If you’re having a picnic and plan to serve pigs in a blanket, you have to make deviled eggs, too. You just have to. These two appetizers taste so good together, you can’t make one without the other.
- Pancakes and Scrambled Eggs. Apart from being a perfect party appetizer, pigs in a blanket also make for a fantastic breakfast item. If you have any leftover from last night’s party (although unlikely), you can serve these yummy treats the next morning!
- Corn Pudding. Give your party a Southern flair by serving corn pudding with your pigs in a blanket. This sweet and creamy custard is bursting with flavor – it’s got corn, milk, and eggs – the combination of all things wonderful.
- Dips. As I’ve mentioned, because it’s pure sausage and pastry, pigs in a blanket are a bit on the dry side. They will always need some dips, sauces, and dressings to add some moisture and tasty goodness.
- Fruit Salad. Last but not least, give your guests a nice dessert to round out your meal. Since they’re loaded with carbs, pigs in a blanket can be heavy on the tummy.

- Take the crescent roll dough out of the can. Keep the dough in tact. Gently pull the dough into four rectangles. (They should already be in rectangles as each rectangle has two triangles that are meant to be pulled apart if you were making classic crescent rolls.) Use your fingers to pinch the middle of the triangles together so the rectangle stays in tact when you cut it and roll the pigs in a blanket. Use a pizza cutter to cut each rectangle into three long strips. They should be about 3/4-inch by 4-inches. You should have twelve strips.
- Cut each slice of cheese in half and then into thirds. You should have six small pieces of cheese.
