HOMEMADE COPYCAT BISQUICK BAKING MIX

Homemade Copycat Bisquick Baking Mix image

Homemade Copycat Bisquick Mix. So easy to make and only 5 ingredients!*****Tips:***** This recipe can be stored in pantry for short term, but store it in refrigerator or freezer for extended shelf life. Always use a good brand of fresh baking powder, when in doubt throw it out and buy new. If you are avoiding sugar you can leave it out and it will not affect final consistency. Swap shortening for butter if preferred. If you use shortening the mix will store for several months in your pantry without refrigeration.

Provided by A Cultivated Nest

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 cups all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. baking powder
1 ½ tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
½ cup melted butter (you can use shortening if you don't want to refrigerate your mix if you prefer)

Steps:

  • In a stand mixer combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well mixed.
  • While mixer is going slowly pour melted butter into bowl to distribute evenly. If you are using shortening, cut in the shortening.
  • Allow to mix for 1 full minute.
  • You can mix this by hand, and I have, but I find using my stand mixer gives it a more even distribution- especially the butter. This will give you more consistent results in your baking.
  • Transfer to an airtight container like a mason jar or freezer bag and store in refrigerator or freezer for 3-4 weeks.
  • Use an equal amount of homemade Bisquick in place of the store brand in all your recipes.

THE MASTER MIX (HOMEMADE BISQUICK SUBSTITUTE)

The Master Mix (Homemade Bisquick Substitute) image

This recipe is in response to a discussion on the boards about Bisquick. Bisquick is apparently not available in the country where the originator of the thread lives. I prefer to use this in recipes that call for 'Bisquick' rather than purchase it, myself. If stored in the freezer, this will keep for several months. I hope you find this as handy as I do, since I could never keep 'Bisquick' on hand before. If I recall correctly, I think this came from one of my Make a Mix Cookery cookbooks.

Categories     Quick Breads

Time 23m

Yield 10-12 cups, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

9 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 1/3 cups powdered milk
1 tablespoon salt
1/3 cup baking powder
2 cups shortening

Steps:

  • In a large pan, stir the dry milk, baking powder, sugar and salt into the flour; mix thoroughly.
  • Cut the shortening into the dry ingredients until the MIX is the consistency of corn meal.
  • Place the mix in a covered glass or plastic container and keep in a cool, dry place.
  • In warm weather the MIX should be refrigerated.
  • Use within a month.
  • To measure, pile the MIX lightly into a cup and level off with a spatula or the back of a knife.

ORIGINAL BISQUICK® KNOCK-OFF GLUTEN-FREE VERSION

Original Bisquick® Knock-Off Gluten-Free Version image

This is my gluten-free knock-off of Classic Bisquick® Baking Mix. This replaces cup-for-cup any recipe calling for Classic Bisquick®, not recipes calling for the gluten-free version of Bisquick®. Classic Bisquick® has fats in the mix whereas, the gluten-free version does not. My recipe contains oil and needs to be refrigerated after being mixed. It will last up to one week in an airtight container in the fridge. The addition of gluten-free cereal mimics the enriched flour aiding in the baking process as well as adding vitamins.

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 11

½ cup powdered milk
2 cups rice flour
1 cup potato starch
