- Sloppy Joes. It may not be the cover girl of sandwiches, but this combination of ground meat, onions, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce was a staple in many American homes in the '80s.
- Chicken Kiev. If you were at a catered event or fancy restaurant during the '80s, you likely would have encountered this delicious gut bomb of a chicken breast, which may or may not actually have Ukranian-Russian origins.
- Seven-Layer Dip. While not exactly extinct, this beloved dip was part of the sudden widespread craze over Tex-Mex cuisine. The first printed version (in a 1981 Family Circle magazine) was even called Tex-Mex dip.
- Beef Stroganoff. It may have a reputation of epitomizing bad cafeteria food, but this mushroom-laden stew deserves better than that. It consists of fragrant onions, sliced beef, and mushrooms, and while the fact that the cream sauce is made entirely out of sour cream may make you do a double take, it's that tanginess that gives the dish its signature taste.
- Salmon Rillettes. The concept of the formal cocktail party saw a resurgence in the second half of the decade, and with that came all the posh canapés and finger foods one would expect at such an event.

- Dessert Lunchables. These tasty snacks were the prized possession of any kid at the lunch table. The '90s snack packs used to come in a variety of flavors including s'mores, Oreo cookies and frosting, and star sugar cookies with electric blue frosting.
- Jiffy Pop Popcorn. Since 1959, Jiffy Pop has been the reigning snack of choice for families all over the country. While it's not technically discontinued, it can only be found in a handful of stores or online.
- Circus Peanuts. Circus Peanuts were created in the 1800s and sold as part of the era of penny candies. The banana marshmallow creations are hard to find in stores now but can still be found at classic candy stores or online.
- Moon Pie Crunch. Classic Moon Pies got an upgrade in the 2000s with Moon Pie Crunch. The new treat came in two varieties: peanut butter and mint. Instead of the cake-like cookie on a traditional Moon Pie, the crunch version had crunchy cookies to make the sandwich, and there was no marshmallow filling.
- Vanilla Nesquik. In 1979, Nesquik introduced a new riff on the classic chocolate powder with vanilla. Vanilla Nesquik took over grocery store shelves, standing alongside chocolate, strawberry, and eventually banana, only for the vanilla and banana flavors to be discontinued.

- Liver and onions. While once on dinner tables across the country, and a staple at diners, liver and onions has more recently become a rarity when it pops up on plates.
- TV dinners. A dish that is so simple, but was always so exciting at the same time, TV dinners were once a staple on the dinner table—or, more accurately, a living room table or on a TV tray table.
- Turtle soup. Today, we typically just see turtles swimming in lakes, streams, and oceans, but throughout the 1800s, turtles also swam in a meaty broth resulting in a long-forgotten dinner—turtle soup.
- Franks and beans. Dating back to the Civil War, baked beans were one of the earliest canned foods that came ready to eat. It's unknown when hot dogs, or chunks of pork, began being added to the mix, but sometime after the Civil War, serving a dish of franks and beans turned into a typical dinner.
- Hamburger Helper. Helpful to busy parents throughout the country, Hamburger Helper first hit American shelves in 1971 in response to increasing meat prices.
