If you are looking for something nice to nibble and don't feel like baking then try these date slices. You can also replace the biscuits with Rice Pops. Very good!

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pkt Biscuits ((I used Arrowroot))
1 cup Butter
1 cup Sugar
1 cup Dates
1 Egg ((Optional))
Coconut (for the topping)

Steps:

  • Melt butter and sugar in a pot.
  • Do not let it brown.
  • Add finely chopped dates and beaten egg, stir well and bring to the boil.
  • Break biscuits into small pieces and add to date mixture.
  • Mix and remove from heat.
  • Sprinkle coconut at the bottom of the dish.
  • Press the mixture onto the coconut layer.
  • Put in the fridge for about 2 hours.
  • Cut into squares and serve.

This easy egg-free no-bake date slice (Dadelvingers) comes together in 30 minutes. A delightfully sweet treat flavoured with dates and Marie biscuits.

125 grams butter
110 grams granulated sugar
150 grams dates
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
150 gram Marie biscuits (Vanilla Wine Biscuits)
⅓ cup desiccated coconut

Steps:

  • Grease and line a loaf tin with baking paper, using the sling method, in which two sides of the parchment are allowed to hang over the edges of the tin.
  • Finely chop the pitted dates and set them aside. Break or crush the biscuits into chunks, and set them aside.
  • In a medium to a small saucepan, melt the butter and sugar over low heat, stirring until all the sugar has dissolved. Then add the chopped dates, stir and slowly bring to a boil and cook for about 3 minutes.
  • Remove the date mixture from the heat, add in the vanilla and salt, mix through. Add in the biscuit chunks and stir until the biscuits are covered with the date mixture.
  • Press the warm mixture into the loaf pan, flatten out using the back of a spoon or offset spatula. Sprinkle the coconut over the top, and press the coconut into the top of the mixture. Allow cooling on the kitchen counter for about 30 minutes before placing in the fridge to set for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Allow the slice (Date Fingers or Dadelvingers) to come to room temperature for about 20 minutes before slicing and serving.

1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup coconut
3 cups rice bubbles (puffed rice cereal)
1/2 cup unsalted nuts, chopped
1 1/2 cups icing sugar (confectioners sugar)
1 tablespoon soft butter
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • SLICE:.
  • Grease and line the base of a slice tin.
  • Combine dates, butter and sugar in a large saucepan. Heat for 5 minutes-do not boil. The mixture should be smooth and pulpy. Remove from the heat.
  • Add the remaining slice ingredients. Mix well and press into the prepared tin. Refrigerate until set and then top/spread with the icing.
  • To make the Icing:.
  • Combine all of the ingredients in a saucepan and heat on a low heat until spreadable.

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup hot water
2 cups plain flour
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup brown sugar
8 ounces butter

Steps:

  • Cook the first 3 ingredients to a pulp and leave to cool.
  • Mix remaining ingredients together like a crumble.
  • Spread half of the mixture on the bottom of a tray.
  • Cover with the dates. Then sprinkle remainder on top.
  • Bake 30 mins at gas 4 or 180c.
