THE REAL MOJITO

The Real Mojito image

This is an authentic recipe for mojito. I sized the recipe for one serving, but you can adjust it accordingly and make a pitcher full. It's a very refreshing drink for hot summer days. Be careful when drinking it, however. If you make a pitcher you might be tempted to drink the whole thing yourself, and you just might find yourself talking Spanish in no time! Tonic water can be substituted instead of the soda water but the taste is different and somewhat bitter.

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     Latin American     Caribbean

Time 10m

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 6

10 fresh mint leaves
½ lime, cut into 4 wedges
2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
1 cup ice cubes
1 ½ fluid ounces white rum
½ cup club soda

Steps:

  • Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the lime juice. Do not strain the mixture. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice. Pour the rum over the ice, and fill the glass with carbonated water. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired. Garnish with the remaining lime wedge.

REFRESHING MOJITO BY THE PITCHER MOJITOS

Refreshing Mojito by the Pitcher Mojitos image

This is a refreshing Cuban drink. It's hard to stop drinking these on a hot summers day. I made these for the fourth of July and we went on to 3 yes 3 pitchers! If you don't have a muddle stick try a mortar and pestle or the end of a wooden rolling pin. Please use fresh lime if you cannot go ahead and try the already bottled lime juice but if you do think about that when you rate this recipe! I did both and there's nothing like fresh! Same goes for the fresh mint if you need to you can use frozen but I DON'T recommend extract. And for the sugar real granular is what helps muddles the lime and extract the mint oils from the leaves.

Categories     Punch Beverage

Time 15m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

10 limes, fresh pulp and juice
30 leaves of fresh mint
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup white rum
club soda, chilled

Steps:

  • Place lime juice, mint and sugar into a pitcher.
  • Using a muddle stick mash to release mint oils, and dissolve sugar into juice.
  • Add rum and lots of ice topped with club soda. Adding more club soda to glasses if a lighter drink is desired.
  • Garnish with fresh mint and lime slices.

MOJITOS BY THE PITCHER

Mojitos by the Pitcher image

I have served this to people who have sworn that they dislike mojitos and they love it. I believe it is the fresh ingredients and the use of sugar, instead of simple syrup, muddled together that makes this cocktail refreshing and delicious. It takes a little bit of work but the results are well worth it. Serve over ice.

EASY MOJITOS

It's hard to find mojitos at any of the restaurants in the small town I'm stationed in, and when I tried to make my own using club soda, they never seemed to turn out right. Using lemon-lime soda also cuts down on the amount of sugar usually used.

MEXICAN MOJITO

Mexican Mojito image

The mojito is so sexy and light that it would be a shame not to adapt the Cuban original to the Mexican model. The typical mojito is made with white rum, but a smooth white tequila works perfectly with the wisp of mint and sweetness. Tequila is a more versatile mixer than one might think, especially in drinks that already lean to the tart and citrusy. A very quick drink to make-and drink.-Deborah Schneider

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 mint sprigs
3 lime wedges
3 teaspoons sugar
6 ounces ice cubes
1 1/2 ounces agave white tequila
2 ounces soda water or 2 ounces sparkling water
1 ounce carbonated lemon-lime beverage
lime wheel and mint sprig

Steps:

  • In a mixing glass or shaker, muddle the mint sprigs, lime, and sugar.
  • Add the ice and tequila. Cap tightly, shake vigorously, and pour into a 12-ounce glass. Top the glass with soda water and top that with the lemon-lime soda. Garnish with a sprig of mint and a lime wheel.
