OLD BAY KING CRAB LEGS

Old Bay King Crab Legs image

The classic seafood seasoning and lemon bring heat and brightness to sweet crab meat. The only way to improve it is with a dunk in drawn butter.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 35m

Yield 2 to 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 pounds frozen cooked king crab legs
One 6-ounce box seafood seasoning, such as Old Bay, plus additional as needed
2 lemons
1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter

Steps:

  • Put the crab legs in the bottom of a large stockpot, then cover with 4 quarts of water and stir in the seafood seasoning (see Cook's Note). Halve the lemons and squeeze the juice into the pot, then add the rinds. Cover and bring to a boil, then cook over medium-high heat until the crab legs are warmed through, about 5 minutes. Remove the crab legs to a large serving bowl or platter.
  • Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook until the butter foams and simmers, about 1 minute. Remove from the heat and let stand 5 minutes. Using a spoon, remove any milk solids from the surface of the butter, then slowly pour the melted butter into a small serving bowl, leaving any watery, white whey behind in the saucepan. Serve alongside the crab legs.

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1.5 pound King Crab Legs and Claws (fully thawed)
1 cup Water
1/4 cup Unsalted Butter (or Ghee)
2 cloves Garlic (minced)
Parsley (for garnish)

Steps:

  • Stove, oven, or grill instructions: Combine the BUTTER and GARLIC in a heat-safe skillet. Place skillet next to the crab legs (for oven or grill method), or on a low heat setting on the stove until butter is melted.Microwave instructions: Combine the butter and garlic in a heat-safe bowl or microwave on HIGH for 1 minute, or until butter is melted.
  • Place a trivet in the bottom of a large soup pot, stack CRAB LEGS on the trivet, and pour in 1 cup WATER.
  • Turn stove burner to medium-high, cover the pot, and steam crab legs about 5 minutes, or until warmed through.
  • Place a trivet in the bottom of the Instant Pot, stack CRAB LEGS on the trivet, and pour in 1 cup WATER.
  • Secure lid and turn pressure release valve to "Sealing".
  • Select MANUAL or PRESSURE COOK and cook 0 minutes on LOW pressure (1 minute for frozen crab legs), followed by a 5 minute natural pressure release.*Note: there's no need to pressure cook crab legs any longer than this if you bought them pre-cooked, which is usually how they're sold.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Place crab legs on a baking sheet and brush with OLIVE OIL. Set garlic butter skillet on the same baking sheet.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until crab leg meat is warmed through.
  • Preheat grill to MEDIUM-HIGH (about 400°F).
  • Brush or spritz CRAB LEGS with olive oil, place on the grill with the garlic butter, and turn off center burner.
  • Close the lid and grill the crab until warmed through (5-8 minutes).
  • Just before serving, use kitchen sheers to cut open the soft, underside of each crab leg (making it easier for guests to open).
  • Serve crab legs warm with melted GARLIC BUTTER, garnished with LEMON and PARSLEY.
  • Allow crab legs to cool completely and refrigerate in an airtight container up to 5 days.

CRABS - GARLIC BUTTER BAKED CRAB LEGS

Crabs - Garlic Butter Baked Crab Legs image

I have tried and tried again to re-create the garlic butter crab legs that taste like the crabs from my favorite crab joint-The Crab House on Pier 39 in San Francisco. I have finally done it!

Provided by Missykrissy66

Categories     Crab

Time 35m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 lbs king crab legs
1/2 cup butter (salted or unsalted)
1/2 head garlic, about 5 garlic cloves, minced pressed
1/2 lemon, juice of
1/2 lime, juice of
1/8 cup extra virgin olive oil
sea salt (optional)
dried parsley (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Meanwhile, grab yourself a small saucepan. On med low heat, melt the butter. Add the garlic (I prefer a press) and LIGHTLY saute. Squeeze in the juice of the citrus of choice. If using a lemon, squeeze the juice into your hands so that you can remove the seeds with ease. Turn the heat to low and let those flavors mesh until the oven is nice and hot. Toss in as much salt (to taste) and a couple pinches of parsley. Then whisk in that olive oil with a fork. Turn off your burner.
  • Arrange your tasty crustaceans in a 9x13 baking dish, brushing each leg with the sauce. ***TASTY TIP*** I use an injector to pop a *little* extra UMPH into my crabs. Pour any remaining sauce over those puppies. Now toss the pan into the oven on the center rack.
  • Bake your crabs for about 25 minutes or so (depending on how thick the legs you have are), brushing the sauce from the bottom of the pan onto the legs every 5-7 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with a few pinches o' parsley for garnish.
  • I am a lazy gal, detest doing more dishes than I have to, and am a firm believer in the "waste not, want not" phrase. With that said, I just serve the crab in the same dish I baked it in so I can dip the meat into the tasty sauce, savoring every last drop. If you are the opposite, use tongs and place them on a platter and pour the buttery-goodness into ramekins. VOILA! Crab House comparable delicacy! "Ohhhh my CRAAAABS!
