Instant Pot® Kielbasa, Sauerkraut, and Potato image

Some serious German-style comfort food. This dish is savory, delicious, and very quick and easy to make in the Instant Pot®.

2 slices bacon
2 pounds fresh kielbasa, sliced into 2-inch pieces
1 medium sweet onion, diced
¼ cup dark brown sugar
3 large yellow potatoes, chopped
2 (16 ounce) packages sauerkraut, drained
1 ½ cups chicken broth
1 apple - peeled, cored, and diced
½ cup beer
½ teaspoon sea salt

Steps:

  • Turn on a multi-functional pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot®) and select Saute function. Add bacon; cook until crispy, 8 to 10 minutes. Pull bacon out with tongs and set in a bowl. Add kielbasa to the pot; lightly brown on all sides, 5 to 7 minutes. Remove with tongs and place in the bowl with the bacon.
  • Saute onions in the pot until soft, 2 to 3 minutes. Crumble the bacon and add to the pot. Stir in brown sugar. Add potatoes, sauerkraut, chicken broth, apple, beer, and salt. Mix gently.
  • Close and lock the lid. Select high pressure according to manufacturer's instructions; set timer for 12 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
  • Release pressure using the natural-release method for 10 minutes according to manufacturer's instructions. Release remaining pressure carefully using the quick-release method. Unlock and remove the lid.

2 Tbsp lard or oil
2 oz (55 g) bacon
1/2 lb kielbasa, (cut into desired size pieces)
1 onion, (chopped)
1 lb sauerkraut, (drained)
3 potatoes, (cut into large chunks)
2 garlic cloves, (sliced)
1 apple, (peeled and grated)
1 bay leaf
1/2 Tbsp yellow mustard
1/2 cup white wine or beer
1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
1 tsp smoked paprika
black pepper, (to taste)

Steps:

  • Put oil or lard in Instant Pot*. Using Saute setting, fry bacon and kielbasa until brown. Remove from the pot.
  • Add onion to the pot and saute until soft.
  • Return kielbasa to the pot and add sauerkraut together with all remaining ingredients.
  • Close the lid, set valve to Sealing. Cook for 15* minutes on Manual setting, high pressure, natural release. Serve Instant Pot Sauerkraut immediately with a fresh bread or dinner rolls.

1 Cup Chicken Broth
3 Pounds Potatoes
1 16 Ounce Jar Sauerkraut
1 Small Onion (Finely Diced)
1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 Teaspoon Oregano Flakes
1 Teaspoon Parsley
2 14 Ounce Packages Polish Kielbasa (I used Eckrich Brand)

Steps:

  • Add the chicken broth into the inner pot of your Instant Pot.
  • Clean and chunk potatoes. (remove skin if you like) add to the inner pot.
  • Drain as much or as little juice from the sauerkraut that you would like. Add the sauerkraut on top of the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle the seasonings (pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and parsley flakes) on top of sauerkraut. Stir these ingredients together.
  • Dice or slice the onion however you like and then add on top of the sauerkraut.
  • Cut the kielbasa into desired chunks and place into the inner pot.
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot, making sure the release valve is closed.
  • Press the Pressure Cooker Button set manually on high for 12 minutes.
  • Once the timer goes off turn the release valve to venting.
  • Once all steam is released, Enjoy.

6 pounds kielbasa
3 cans beer
2 Granny Smith apples, sliced
3 pounds sauerkraut
Caraway seeds, optional

Steps:

  • Brown kielbasa on grill or in pan. Combine sauerkraut, kielbasa, apples and caraway seeds, if using, and enough beer to cover. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer and let cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until cooked through. Serve with bread.

1 Tablespoon Cooking Oil, (canola or vegetable)
1 Lb. Kielbasa Sausage, (heat serve variety, sliced)
29 Ounces Sauerkraut, (two (2) cans, un-drained)
1/2 Cup Water

Steps:

  • Turn the Instant Pot onto saute, and allow the liner to get hot. Add oil and sausage pieces (work in batches if necessary).
  • Cook until sausage is browned on both sides (about three (3)-five (5) minutes each side).
  • Remove sausage pieces from Instant Pot and carefully add water making sure not to splash any grease. Use a wooden spoon to scrape the bits from the bottom of liner (de-glaze the pot!!). Turn off the Instant Pot.
  • Pour the sauerkraut into the liner, and top with cooked sausage pieces.
  • Close the lid and set the valve to sealing. Use the manual (pressure cook) button to adjust the time to zero (0) minutes. The timer will go off as soon as the Instant Pot comes to pressure. Allow the Instant Pot to complete a natural release for ten (10) minutes before opening the valve to release any remaining pressure.
  • Open the lid and stir the contents. Serve hot.

1 large onion, chopped
2 Red Delicious apples or 2 yellow golden delicious apples, cored and cubed
1 (16 ounce) can sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
1 (13 3/4 ounce) can reduced-sodium chicken broth
1/4 teaspoon caraway seed

Steps:

  • In 4 or 5-quart sauce pot, cook sliced kielbasa and onion over medium-high heat 5 minutes; stirring frequently or until browned.
  • Add apples and cook stirring frequently about 1 minute.
