  • Avoid pro-inflammatory foods. Pro-inflammatory foods include: Sugar: If you have a sweet tooth, like me, I apologize in advance. Unfortunately, there have been studies done that indicate that a high sugar intake (high glycemic diet) is proportional to sebum (oil) production.
  • Eat anti-inflammatory foods/nutrients aka foods that prevent inflammation. Here is a great list of anti-inflammatory foods: Low glycemic foods. If high glycemic diet promotes inflammation, it only makes sense that the opposite, low glycemic diet, will prevent inflammation.
  • Drink water. I promised cheap, right?! Hehe. Actually, I talked about this last week, but adding in lemon water is also super good for you too! Try to grab 8 glasses a day; and while this is only a general guideline, I’m pretty sure your hot bod will thank you for it:) Learn more about why water and lemon water especially, are great for your skin, here.
  • Unclog and tighten your pores. Exfoliation is key here. You have to handle a clogged pore gently, but also consistently, so I thought I’d share a few of my favorite all natural face masks to unclog your pores if you need some SKIN-inspiration!

7 TIPS TO SHRINK YOUR PORES - CLEVELAND CLINIC

From health.clevelandclinic.org
  • Follow a good skin care regimen. Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face in the morning and evening. To keep pores clear of excess oil, make sure you only use products labeled oil-free or noncomedogenic (meaning they won’t clog your pores).
  • Apply sun protection. Protection from the sun’s rays is a must to avoid losing collagen and elastin from skin damage. Use broad spectrum sunscreen in your daytime skin care routine.
  • Do a chemical peel. Clearing pores of dead skin cells and excess oil helps them appear smaller. An occasional at-home chemical peel can do the trick. “You can use most over-the-counter peels every two weeks and sometimes weekly, depending on the type of peel and depth of skin cells it removes,” says Dr. Wu.
  • Use retinol. Retinol is a do-it-all skin care ingredient famous for fighting acne and wrinkles. Retinols are derivatives of vitamin A, with over-the-counter and prescription-strength options.
  • Ask about prescription medications. If over-the-counter products aren’t working, consider seeing a skin specialist (dermatologist). A dermatologist can prescribe stronger retinoid products, like Retin-A® (tretinoin), which are more powerful than over-the-counter options.
  • Try microneedling. Your dermatologist can perform a microneedling procedure, an effective way of plumping up skin to shrink pores. “We use a microneedling device to make tiny punctures in the skin with very small, sterile needles,” explains Dr. Wu.
  • Consider lasers to shrink pores. Dermatologists can administer laser therapy treatments to resurface your skin. This in-office procedure can help with a variety of skin woes, including reducing the appearance of large pores.

YOU CAN’T ACTUALLY SHRINK YOUR PORES — 9 TIPS TO TRY INSTEAD

From healthline.com
  • Use a gentle approach. If you feel tempted to pick, squeeze, or scrub your pores into nothingness, take a deep breath. Going on the attack won’t do much to minimize your pores.
  • Find the right products. Starting a regular skin care routine is one way to help pores look smaller. A good first step? Ensure you’re using the right products for your skin.
  • Upgrade your cleansing routine. It’s easy to forget to cleanse twice a day. You might be more of a “once daily” or “whenever I remember” cleanser. If that works well for your skin, we say carry on.
  • Exfoliate regularly. Oil and dead skin cells can easily build up and fill your pores. Clogged pores can, in turn, lead to breakouts, making pores even more obvious.
  • Try retinoids. Retinoids, which boost skin cell turnover, could also help minimize the appearance of pores. Williams explains that vitamin A derivatives, like tretinoin and isotretinoin, don’t just help clear out clogged pores.
  • Apply sunscreen every single day. Sunscreen is a necessity for everyone, so don’t forget this vital step! Sun damage can negatively affect your skin in a number of ways, from dark spots to increased risk for skin cancer.
  • Check your makeup. Makeup can be a double-edged sword, when it comes to your pores. While certain formulas can mask pores, others can end up clogging them.
  • Reframe your mindset. It never hurts to keep in mind that you need your pores, even if you don’t love how they look. They’re a natural part of your skin, not a flaw.
  • Try an in-office procedure. Struggling to get results at home? Dermatologists have access to much more powerful pore treatments. Pore-shrinking procedures include
