Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 stick (113 grams) unsalted American butter*
1 cup (200 grams) light brown sugar
1 teaspoon fine salt

Steps:

  • Line a small rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • In a heavy bottomed small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar and salt and whisk vigorously for one minute until combined. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture looks like melted peanut butter and a candy thermometer reaches 295 to 305°F, about 10 minutes.
  • If the mixture separates at all, remove from heat and whisk vigorously until recombined. Return to heat and continue cooking.
  • Immediately and carefully pour the hot toffee onto the prepared baking pan, allowing it to spread into an even layer. Let cool and harden for about 20 minutes.
  • Place the sheet of toffee on a cutting board or in a zip top bag. Use a mallet, rolling pin, or heavy object to crack it into small pieces. You can also cut into bits with a sharp serrated knife. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

HOMEMADE SKOR (TOFFEE BITS) HOT CHOCOLATE

Homemade Skor (Toffee Bits) Hot Chocolate image

Homemade hot chocolate mix with Skor (or toffee bits).

Provided by Karlynn Johnston

Categories     Drinks

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2 cups powdered milk
3/4 cup icing sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup Skor Bits or plain toffee baking bits

Steps:

  • Combine the chocolate and the toffee in a larger food processor and process until it's almost completely broken down.
  • Add in the remaining ingredients and process until powdered; this will take a while so have patience and just let the food processor chop it all up. I usually leave some little chunks to melt in my powder.
  • To use: Add the hot chocolate powder to taste in a cup of hot water. Since we use milk powder, you don't need to use milk. Store in an airtight container for 6 weeks (or more), but it won't last that long!

These are delicious; perfect for those who like the combination of toffee and caramel with chocolate.

Provided by Lennie

Categories     Bar Cookie

Time 1h20m

Yield 48 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

3/4 cup margarine or 3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 (300 ml) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons margarine or 2 tablespoons butter
1 (300 g) package milk chocolate chips
1 (225 g) package skor toffee pieces (sold where the chocolate chips are sold)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine first amount of butter, brown sugar and flour.
  • Press this mixture evenly into an ungreased 13x9 baking pan.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until crust is golden.
  • Place baking pan on a wire rack to cool while you make the filling; leave oven on.
  • In a medium-sized saucepan, heat milk and the 2 tbsp butter over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened-- it will take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Spread this over baked crust in baking pan and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden; remove from oven but leave oven on.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over top; return to oven for 2 minutes, or until the chips soften and are shiny.
  • Remove from oven (turn oven off now) and spread the chocolate evenly; then sprinkle the Skor bits over the chocolate, pressing down with a very light touch to embed the Skor bits into the chocolate.
  • You could cut them into bars right away, but they will cut easier if allowed to chill in the refrigerator for at least a few minutes.
  • Best served at room temperature, not cold.
