Hershey's "perfectly chocolate" chocolate cake with 5 ingredient chocolate frosting is our favorite homemade chocolate cake recipe.

2 cups granulated sugar
1 3/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup oil ((vegetable or canola oil))
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water (, or hot coffee)
1/2 cup melted butter
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Line two 8 inch round baking pans with parchment paper and then spray lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla and mix until well combined.
  • Stir in boiling water (or hot coffee). Batter will be thin, but that's okay! Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

I recently came across a notebook of recipes from the 1950s which belonged to my grandmother. Her indulgent chocolate cake recipe included spices and dry fruit, ingredients which I feel are best suited to a winter cake, so I decided to adapt it to my taste and skip those altogether. This yummy cake is so chocolaty and creamy. I love chocolate and everything that has cocoa in it. Chocolate is uplifting and it's good to know that according to medical researchers, if eaten in moderation, dark chocolate - and cocoa in general - (maybe not milk chocolate, since it's full of fat), is a powerful antioxidant and therefore acts as an anti-ageing and also helps to lower cholesterol.

3 eggs
170 g brown sugar
120 g flour
30 g cocoa
50 g unsalted butter
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon cocoa
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 pint milk
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
50 g unsalted butter
100 g cream cheese
2 tablespoons honey
cocoa, for dusting

Steps:

  • Prepare the custard by whisking the egg with the sugar. Add the cocoa and corn starch, the milk and place over a low heat stirring with a wooden spoon until the custard thickens. Remove from the heat, stir in the butter and allow to cool.
  • Now on to the cake: Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Grease a 20cm/8in cake tin with some butter and dust it with flour.
  • Beat the eggs with sugar and butter until fluffy. Blend in the rest of the ingredients and stir until smooth. Gently pour the mixture on to the cake tin.
  • Bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes, or until the top is firm to the touch and a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and allow to cool completely.
  • Transfer the cake to a serving plate. Cut the cake in half and spread the chocolate custard on the bottom half of the cake, then carefully top with the other half.
  • Prepare the frosting by blending the butter with the cream cheese and the honey.
  • Ice the cake all over with the cream cheese icing, using a palette knife. Dust the top with a small amount of cocoa.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease and flour two 8 inch layer pans (or the equivalent).
  • Mix the sugar, sifted flour, sifted cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  • Slowly add the hot milk and butter while stirring.
  • Add the eggs and 3/4 tsp of peppermint extract.
  • Distribute evenly in the pans and bake for 25 minutes, or longer, until toothpick comes out clean.
  • For the icing, beat one stick of soft butter and the three room temperature packages of cream cheese until smooth.
  • Add 3/4 tsp of peppermint extract and 5 cups of powdered sugar.

Steps:

  • Set oven to 350 degrees.

1 box duncan hines swiss chocolate cake mix
1 small box instant vanilla pudding mix
2 c buttermilk ( or 1 1/2 cup of milk )
1 c vegetable oil ( crisco )
3 large eggs
MIX ALL INGREDIENTS AND BAKE AS INSTRUTED
ICING :
6 hershey candy bars
12 oz cool whip
1- -8 oz cream cheese
1 c sugar
1 c powdered sugar
1 c finely chopped peacans

Steps:

  • 1. Bake @ 350 degrees in 3- 9inch pans greased & floured for 30--35 minutes
  • 2. Mix all ingredients together. and bake as instructed.
  • 3. ICING:
  • 4. Grate 5 Hershey candy bars in small bowl. Grate or shave the other bar and set aside for garnishing. ( you can cut back on the bars & not use as many) in the frosting.
  • 5. Beat powdered sugar, sugar and cream cheese. FOLD IN GRATED CANDY BARS AND CHOPPED NUTS. ( DO NOT BEAT JUST FOLD) FOLD IN 12 ounces COOL WHIP.
  • 6. Put 1 layer on the plate you are going to serve it on. You can be generous with the frosting between each layer, Then lay another layer on top of the first put another of frosting. Put the last layer on top . Proceed on to frost the top and sides. Sprinkle the 6th. candy bar on top. Refrigerate.
  • 7. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 cup cream cheese

For the Chocolate Cream Cheese Buttercream
3/4 cup of butter
3/4 cup of cream cheese
1 & 3/4 cups Hersheys cocoa powder
5 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Hersheys Chocolate Cake First, preheat your oven to 350F. Spray 3 round cake pans with cooking spray Dust the pans lightly with flour, set aside. In a Large mixing bowl or kitchenaid mixer combine the Flour, Hersheys cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and the salt. Add in the milk, oil, eggs and the vanilla extract & mix until everything is thoroughly incorporated. Once all combined, stir in the boiling water last; mix again, the batter will be very thin. Pour the batter evenly in each of the sprayed/floured cake pans Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of each layer comes out clean. Once fully baked, remove from oven & allow the 3 cakes to cool for at least 10-15 minutes before removing them. Once removed, transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling completely. I always use a cake leveler to make sure the layers are even, you can also use a serrated knife While they finish cooling, prepare your frostings. Whipped Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting Instructions Whip the cream cheese & the butter with an electric mixer on high speed for about 30 seconds. Once combined begin adding in 1/2 cup of powdered sugar at time, making sure each half cup is fully incorporated before mixing in another 1/2 cup., add in the vanilla extract & whip one last time for about 30 more seconds on high and beat one minute more until nice & fluffy Chocolate Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting Inctructions In a large bowl beat the butter & cream cheese with an electric mixer and begin adding in the powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time again add in the cocoa and the milk & vanilla Whip all of the ingredients until they are thoroughly incorporated Beat at High speed for about one minute or until fluffy. Once you are ready to assemble the cake Level the cakes with a cake leveler to assure perfect stacking of the cake layers Place the bottom layer on a cake plate. Spread 3/4 cup of the cream cheese buttercream filling over the bottom cake layer Top with the second leveled layer and repeat the process. Lastly, top with the third layer.   • Use the first set of ingredients to make the cake. In a medium bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add the eggs, milk, oil and vanilla, mix for 3 minutes with an electric mixer. Stir in the boiling water by hand. Pour evenly into the two prepared pans.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to cool completely.
  • To make the frosting, use the second set of ingredients. Cream butter until light and fluffy. Stir in the cocoa and confectioners' sugar alternately with the milk and vanilla. Beat to a spreading consistency.
  • Split the layers of cooled cake horizontally, cover the top of each layer with frosting, then stack them onto a serving plate. Frost the outside of the cake.
