1 baguette, halved horizontally and quartered crosswise
4 ounces thinly sliced French ham
2 ounces thinly sliced Swiss cheese
Dijon mustard, for serving
Cornichons, for serving

Steps:

  • Spread 1 tablespoon butter on each piece of baguette. Divide ham and cheese among bottom halves of bread. Sandwich with top halves. Serve with mustard and cornichons.

One sheet Jus Rol puff pastry
1/2 cup ham (diced)
8 teaspoons tomato sauce or pizza sauce
1/2 grated mozzarella cheese
chopped chives to decorate

Steps:

  • Taking puff pastry out of the fridge for at least 10 mins before starting
  • Preheat oven to 180 C
  • Using a circle cookie cutter, cut eight circles out of your sheet of puff pastry
  • Place on a non grease cookie sheet
  • Place a teaspoon of tomato sauce in the middle of each circle and spread out leaving a little edge clear for the puff pastry to puff up
  • Sprinkle grated cheese on top of the sauce, again leaving the sides clear
  • Place a few pieces of diced ham in the middle or any left over meat you have in the house
  • Add a tiny bit more cheese on top of ham
  • Bake in the oven for 5-8 minutes or until puffed and golden brown, watch closely.
  • Sprinkle freshly chopped chives on top to serve

4 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, 1 minced or grated, 1 cut in half for rubbing bread, optional
Eight 1/3- to 1/2-inch-thick slices Pullman or white sandwich bread
8 slices emmentaler or Swiss cheese (about 4 ounces)
4 ounces thinly sliced leftover or deli ham
1/2 cup cornichons, sliced lengthwise

Steps:

  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat and add the minced garlic. Cook to infuse the garlic flavor into the butter and until the butter turns brown, about 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and strain.
  • Lay out 4 slices of the bread on a work surface. Layer each with 1 slice of the cheese, some ham and then some of the cornichons. Top with 1 more slice of cheese. Close the sandwiches with the remaining bread and brush with butter until fully coated on both sides.
  • Place 2 sandwiches into a medium skillet over medium heat. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook until the bread is evenly golden brown, about 2 minutes. Flip, cover again and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is visibly melted, about 2 minutes more. Repeat with the remaining sandwiches. If desired, rub the outside of the toasted bread with the garlic halves to add a little more garlic flavor.

  • Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the egg noodles, and return to a boil.   • Preheat the oven at 375°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat sheet. Roll out the puff pastry until is doubled in size, and thin. Cut in 3 ½ -4-inch strips.
  • Leaving ¼ inch space on the outer edges of the puff pastry, spread with the help of a small spatula, the cream cheese. Add on top of it the cooked ham. Gently roll over one side of the puff pastry sheet, tucking in the ham, and give it a second turn until you meet the end of the cheese mixture and have the ¼ inch exposed.
