This recipe is from Jean Anderson and her book "A Love Affair with Southern Cooking" literally bring tears to my eyes because she really loves Southern cooking and it shows through history, personal experiences, stories, etc. It's like reading a novel and so full of passion and love for cooking. According to her not many Southerners beyond northern Alabama know this sauce. It is used to marinate everything from chicken to fish. Also can be used as a dip for fresh veggies and in my case used as a dip for cracked crab and chilled cooked shrimp. Speak of delish! I had this sauce with Dungeness crab, coleslaw recipe from Dinosaur BBQ and gruner veltliner wine. Perfect.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 1/4 tablespoons cider vinegar or 1 1/4 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1/2 tablespoon water
1/2-1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon creole mustard or 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1/2 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt (to taste)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix until smooth.
  • You can store dish in a covered dish for 5 to 7 days in a fridge.
  • Serve as a dip for crisp veggies, as a cocktail sauce for shellfish or sauce for grilled and fried chicken or fish.

  • Whisk 1 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons each cider vinegar and jarred horseradish, 2 teaspoons lemon juice, 1 teaspoon each spicy mustard and sugar and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Season with salt.

I much prefer this as a dipping sauce over the red version for steamed or boiled shrimp. I had lost my favorite recipe until I found this. It is also, of course, a great sauce for chicken on the grill.

1/4 cup white vinegar
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper

  • Stir together all ingredients until well blended. Cover and chill until ready to serve. Store in airtight container in frig up to one week.

1/4 cup water (optional)
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon fresh coarse ground black pepper
1 tablespoon creole mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish

Steps:

  • Whisk all the ingredients together until well blended.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Primarily used with chicken.

Change it up at your next BBQ! Sauce with a clean fresh zing! Saw this on food network and found the recipe on about.com There are two others on zaar but this one is just a little different. The longer you can wait to use it the better but can be used right away.

1 cup mayonnaise, i use hellmans but try your favorite
1 cup cider vinegar, I use Heinz
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, can use bottled but fresh is the bomb
1 -1 1/2 tablespoon black pepper, depends on you
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, here's the zing but not too much really

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate for 8 hours for best result (you can use it pretty quickly however in a pinch). Brush lightly or marinate over chicken, turkey or pork. If brushing lightly do last few minutes of grilling. Can be used as a dipping sauce as well.
  • This amount easily covers 6 pieces of chicken so you can adjust accordingly if you are marinating or just brushing it on.
