Ham Breakfast Braid image

My step-brother fixes this dish every weekend for his three boys and they all love it. A great breakfast dish that will keep them talking about it all day!

Time 1h

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 7

½ cup milk
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 eggs
salt and pepper to taste
2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent roll dough
4 ounces cooked ham, thinly sliced
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Beat milk and cream cheese together until smooth. Mix in eggs, and season with salt and pepper. Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium high heat and cook egg mixture until eggs are almost set.
  • Arrange the crescent rolls from one package into a rectangle shape on top of a lightly greased cookie sheet. Place rolls from remaining package along the edges of the two long sides of the rectangle, with the broad half of the rolls on top of the first layer of rolls, and the pointed ends extending over the sides of the pan.
  • Arrange the ham in a layer down the center of the dough. Spoon the cooked egg mixture on top of the ham and then sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top of the eggs. Bring the corners of the rolls together over the cheese to form a 'braid' shape.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until cheese is melted and rolls are golden brown.

JALAPENO, SAUSAGE, JACK, AND EGG BREAKFAST BRAID

Jalapeno, Sausage, Jack, and Egg Breakfast Braid image

This is a delicious recipe that is easy to make. It was orginally in the January 2010 issue of Cooking Light, but I made a couple of changes, so the ratio of bread to filling would be a bit more even. I also use whatever cheese I have on hand, usually (whatever you'd put in an omelet). Even if your sausage is fully cooked, don't hesitate to brown it with the onions, because it brings out the flavor that much more. This is easy to make for breakfast or brunch. We sometimes have this as "breakfast for dinner" with roasted ranch potatoes, and we can have leftovers for breakfast the next morning!

Categories     Breakfast

Time 30m

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (13 7/8 ounce) can refrigerated pizza dough
cooking spray
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup onion, chopped
8 ounces chicken sausage, with jalapeno peppers (chopped)
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup monterey jack cheese, shredded
1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 cup jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°.
  • Unroll dough onto a baking sheet coated with cooking spray; pat into a 15 x 10-inch rectangle.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and sausage; cook until lightly browned. Stir in eggs; cook 1 1/2 minutes or until set. Remove from heat.
  • Sprinkle Monterey Jack lengthwise down center of dough, leaving about a 2 1/2-inch border on each side. Spoon egg mixture evenly over cheese. Sprinkle cheddar over egg mixture; top with jalapeño peppers.
  • Make 2-inch-long diagonal cuts about 1 inch apart on both sides of dough to within 1/2 inch of filling using a sharp knife or kitchen shears.
  • Arrange strips over filling, alternating strips diagonally over filling. Press ends under to seal (Recipe #193353 has a great picture on how to do this). Spray with cooking spray.
  • Bake at 425° for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand 5 minutes. Cut crosswise into slices to serve.

HAM & CHEESE BRAID

Ham & Cheese Braid image

A stuffed loaf that can be customized really easily to any filling and seems to be very kid friendly too! (We have a picky eater in the house!)

Categories     Ham

Time 45m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 1/2-3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup warm water
1 egg, beaten
5 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons rosemary
2 tablespoons light mayonnaise

  • Knead until smooth.
  • Place dough in an oiled bowl, turning to coat, cover with saran and let rise until doubled in size (approx 45 min).
  • Punch down.
  • Turn dough out onto lightly floured board and roll into a 12 x 15 rectangle.
  • Transfer onto greased or parchment paper covered baking sheet.
  • Combine Mayo and Mustard well and spread up centre of rolled dough.
  • Lay thin slices of the ham along mayo-mustard spread and cover evenly with cheese.
  • Using scissors cut dough on each side into 1-inch strips (down the entire length).
  • Enclose the filling by starting at the corners and folding the strips over the filling in a criss-cross manner.
  • Let loaf stand, uncovered in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
  • Beat remaining egg and water together to make egg wash and brush over loaf; sprinkle with freshly cracked black pepper.
  • Bake at 375ºF for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
