CANADA DRY IS STILL THE GREATEST GINGER ALE OF ALL TIME

- Canada Dry. This century-old ginger ale is a household name and personal favorite of mine. Everyone can recall that fizzy sensation of gulping a Canada Dry, with its sweet, elegantly balanced flavor rush that coats the back of your throat and covers your tongue in tiny pin-prick bubbles.
- Fever-Tree. Fever-Tree seems to be the carbonated mixer of choice for mixologists these days. You’ve probably seen the tiny bottles sitting on the bar at high-end gastropubs.
- Schweppes. Like Canada Dry and Seagrams, Schweppes is a crown jewel of the carbonated ginger beverage kingdom, and happens to be one of Coca-Cola Great Britain’s oldest brands.
- Blue Sky. Hailing from New Mexico, Blue Sky has been around since 1971, putting its emphasis on “real” and “authentic” flavors. The ginger kick is very punchy.
- Seagrams. You can’t talk about ginger ale without talking about Seagrams. The bold-tasting bubbly drink has a familiarity element that puts it right up there with its old-timey competitors.
- Polar. Though certainly a legacy brand, this supermarket mainstay is not quite as beloved as the other old-school ginger ales. An American soft drink company that’s been brewing bubbles since 1882 in New England, Polar touts a well-balanced ginger ale.
- Reed’s. Reed’s is a relatively new brand with a Jamaican-inspired flavor. The company, which has been around since 1987, says that it “revived a centuries-old recipe for ginger beer.”
- Bruce Cost Unfiltered. Bruce Cost seems to be the ginger ale of choice for Brooklyn's overpriced bagel spots and gentrified coffee shops. It bills itself as “unfiltered” and “made with fresh ginger and organic cane sugar,” even going as far as to say, right on the label, that it is a “proud descendant of the original soft drink," whatever the hell that means.
- Cape Cod Ginger. This one is so bare-bones I’m not sure we’re even able to call it a ginger ale! With a no-frills label that looks like it was made on Powerpoint by a bearded dad enjoying his golden years in New England, this ginger drink comes in a teeny 12 fl.
- Brooklyn Crafted. In last place is an artisanal, glass-bottle ginger ale that offers variations including Sugar Free, Extra Spicy, Lemon Lime, and even Mango.
12 POPULAR GINGER ALE BRANDS RANKED WORST TO BEST

- Canada Dry. Possibly one of the most popular ginger ale brands in the U.S., Canada Dry has been on the market since 1904. The story goes that the fizzy beverage was popular during Prohibition since its taste made it ideal for masking the unpleasant taste of bootlegged liquors.
- Blenheim Ginger Ale. Produced in South Carolina, Blenheim Ginger Ale has a fascinating history. According to the Blenheim website, the brand's story started in the late 1800s when Dr. C. R. May advised his patients with stomach problems to drink water from the local mineral springs.
- Fever Tree. Launched in 2003, Fever Tree Ginger Ale offers a more boutique take on ginger ale than that offered by bigger brands such as Canada Dry and Schweppes.
- Schweppes. Founded in 1783, Schweppes is one of Coca-Cola's oldest and most well-known brands. Interestingly, the company's founder Jacob Schweppe patented his own process of producing carbonated beverages.
- Reed's. Dating back to 1987, Reed's is a retailer of gingery candies and beverages. And while the company is better known for its ginger beer, it turns out that Reed's Ginger Ale is nothing to sneeze at either.
- Blue Sky. The Blue Sky story begins in 1971 with an emphasis on natural flavors and two guys delivering beverages around Santa Fe, New Mexico in a van.
- Bruce Cost. Bruce Cost Ginger Ale is "made with 100% real ginger," although the brand's website doesn't disclose exactly how much ginger is in each of the beverage's bottles.
- Q Ginger Ale. Infused with "agave, ginger, and a delicate blend of spices," Q Ginger Ale is tangy without being overbearing. The agave, in particular, makes a great sweetening substitute for the high fructose corn syrup typically found in ginger ale.
- Seagram's. Seagram's has a chequered history. Originally a distiller, the Canadian company had to pay $1.5 million in fines to the U.S. government when it first set up shop in the country in the 1930s.
- GuS. GuS, or Grown-up Soda, is a complex and very dry beverage with a lingering ginger flavor that doesn't hit you until you've had a few sips. It also exhibits hints of fruit and citrus without being overly sweet (via Ginger Ale Authority).
