- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the onion. Drain fat.
- Combine ranch-style beans, cumin, garlic, cabbage and green pepper in crock pot. Stir in stewed tomatoes, celery, picante sauce, water, and beef mixture. Salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours.

- Into a large pot over medium heat, add the olive oil.
- When the oil is hot, add the onion, green pepper, red pepper, and celery.
- Cook, stirring frequently until vegetables are crisp-tender.
- Add the broth, rice, black-eyed peas with liquid, tomatoes with liquid, and garlic.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Simmer, uncovered, for 45 minutes.
- Add the pre-cooked cabbage.
- Continue cooking an additional 15 minutes.
- Serve hot.

- Heat the olive oil in a dutch oven over medium high heat. Add in the chopped onion and cook until wilted. Crumble in the ground turkey and cook until it is no longer pink. Add in the garlic, celery, bell pepper and carrots. Continue to saute until vegetables are wilted.
- Add in the drained black-eyed peas, tomatoes and green chili, 3 cups chicken stock, ketchup, cabbage, chili powder and oregano. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook on low heat for 45 to 60 minutes or until vegetables are cooked through. Last 15 to 20 minutes check and if needed add in additional stock.
- Serve in bowls with corn bread. Garnish with green onions and sliced radishes.

Oh my goodness, I just found this recipe. I had forgotten all about it. Ths recipe goes back in my family 60+ years ago. A family favorite at the time. It is very easy to make. Was my favorite to make as a teenager. I loved to cook for my family. My mom worked so I helped out after school. Making this for supper tonight.
